I'm still farming some strains on slants (25 or so), let me know if you need any.

Thanks Jim.

Glad that you are still farming!

Enjoy yourself.

I am still around

I check the forum about every morning before heading off to work just to see how everyone is doing! By my last count, I have not brewed a beer in about 1 1/2 years. Time gets away. I figure that I will brew a batch this winter now that the water is starting to cool off. I feel that I will be a begin...

Re: CO2 Tank Refill Locations

praxair is our club affiliate for compressed gasses including propane. i would just swap our your tanks and some time down the road you may get your new ones back. fill all of your tanks at once because there is a hazmat fee for each visit , or combine your visit with friends and split the hazmat f...

Some of you might get some information out of this topic that was nicely done by Ken Schwartz.

Kai's Microscope Link

While I am thinking about it. Kai has uploaded a great WIKI post to his web for using a microscope and counting yeast cells. http://braukaiser.com/wiki/index.php?title=Microscope_use_in_brewing Even if you are not into growing yeast or looking at them, it is worth the time for an education. Kai did ...

Who knows what the FDA limit is for alcohol? Maybe we should stop brewing?
Supposedly its 10 ppm as quoted from above info.
This is what I used for information. Re: Fermcap S possible precautions and Fermcap AT

If memory serves me correctly, up to 200 ppm of silicone is allowed by the FDA . Someone needs to run the math but I don't believe that we get even close with the few drops that we use. Who knows what the FDA limit is for alcohol? Maybe we should stop brewing? Supposedly its 10 ppm as quo...

Re: Hops IBUs?

The pound of Cascade I received in January from Hops Direct was 8.8%. I wonder if they're breeding for higher IBUs? Should not make a difference, but 8.8% is really high! I think that it is the drier season and good sun shine across the US last year with heavy Spring rains. The total yield last yea...

Hops IBUs?

I just received several pounds of hop pellets from Hops Direct.

Is it just me or does the hop IBUs seem higher from last year's crop?

Gotta have a leak somewhere, 10# cylinder will charge a lot of kegs. When you say beer in the line, you mean the tap line, right? Is your cylinder inside or outside the keezer? Spray bottle with starsan can find leaks. jim Follow this advice £ Generally, it is a slow leak around the lid o-ring. Rem...

Re: Reusing yeast questiong

I'm brewing a 10 gallon batch of Oktoberfest-Marzen in a couple weeks and plan on reusing the yeast to ferment a 10 gallon batch of an Oktoberfest-Style Munich Helles afterwards. I will be doing a large multi step starter for this as it's a lager. My question is which is better: 1. Washing the yeas...

Fermcap-S and Pepper Poppers

After deep oil frying several batches of Pepper Poppers, the cooking oil was starting to foam.

Hum  A few drops of Fermcap cleared the foam to clear oil again.

I found out something that I didn't know from Steve (he has been to Germany) is that the color of Kolsch varies in the city.

Maybe Steve can expand on my statement 8)
