Re: Moving to Denver - cheap/free Brew Stuff to a good home

I will be pulling all the stuff out tonight and tomorrow to get pics and the specifics. Not sure what current prices are on Glass Carboy (5, 6.5), pin/ball lock kegs and the like.

Andy will get pics.

Moving to Denver - cheap/free Brew Stuff to a good home

I just found out last week my company is moving to Denver and by proxy, so am I. We are moving into a smaller place and have to find loving homes for some of my excess equipment. - 5-6 cases of champagne bottles, labels removed and clean. The bottles are a mix of small and large caps. - Scales, brew...

Is anyone still growing yeast?

Hey everyone, Is anyone out there in Brewer's land still growing yeast? I still have about 35 strains that are on slants in the freezer from six years ago. Most of my bugs have died out and I'm looking for a 10 µL loop or so of each to start propagating again. I know there was some talk about starti...

Re: Introductions - Start here!

Hi everyone!

It has been a long time and I have missed the Guild so much!

I am still in Kansas City and will be trying to attend the meetings over the next couple months. Look forward to seeing everybody and hope all is well.

A long-lost brewer,

Re: WLP099 White Labs Super High Gravity Ale Yeast

Jim

I calculated the SG on the 1.1 ish. Bet the acid plays a bigger part in the slow lag. This yeast was only used on the one beer, otherwise I only use it for the lemon brew.

Re: Frozen Yeast Gel 1 year old

They are cheap and very easy to lose...very tiny. I use a rare earth magnet from an old hard drive to "hold" the stir bar when I transfer the starter out of the vile. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7054/6888887795_64a8a09459.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7204/6888887931_bdaf45977b.jpg Jason

Re: WLP099 White Labs Super High Gravity Ale Yeast

Jim, I have played around with the high gravity yeast and the SG of the yeast food. The book answer is 1040 for most yeast strains to promote happy yeast and prevent autolysis and such. The reason I started varying the SG was due to the lemon aid brew I make. It is a high gravity and high acid envir...

Re: Frozen Yeast Gel 1 year old

Jim, I have records for a bunch of the strains from 10ul loop from slant to 2L pitch rate, with cell counts (I have a microscope) over the time I was brewing regularly. I will be conducting the same type of experiments/observations when I fire up again. It will be interesting to see how much change ...

Re: Frozen Yeast Gel 1 year old

I have slants and plates in the fridge, slants in the freezer. I have been gone over a year now and some of these samples are about 2 years old. So I have not been paying much attention to my yeast bank since last year. When I was home for Xmas, I took a look at the frozen and yest in the fridge...a...
