Re: Great Divide beer tasting review
15th Anniversary Wood Aged Double IPA : "too sweet/malty" I can definitely agree with this. Tried some of this tonight out of a bottle I picked up from Cork & Barrel yesterday. WAY too sweet for my liking. Good hop aroma and hop flavor, but mouthfeel is weird, don't know how to descri...

Re: filtering the trub when going from kettle -> fermenter
The only reason I used a secondary on my 2nd brew was on the recommendation of a friend. I've been reading more and more people not using secondary and instead leaving it in primary longer like you have described. I have a Saison in the primary right now (since Sunday), and this time I am able to re...

Re: filtering the trub when going from kettle -> fermenter
Chris, thanks for your outline. I wonder if part of the reason my 2nd brew, which was supposed to be a really hoppy IPA, turned out so mediocre & bitter was because of it sitting on 1+ inches of trub from the boil for a week before I went to secondary. Just trying to figure out the common pitfal...

filtering the trub when going from kettle -> fermenter
How do you guys filter the trub when going from kettle to fermenter? On my first 2 brews, I didn't. I also have yet to use a hop bag during the boil, I've just been throwing them into the kettle. I have this 8" funnel with a filter (http://www.midwestsupplies.com/products/ProdByID.aspx?ProdID=4...

Re: weldless fitting = leak. tips, tricks, upgrade?
Post a picture of your thingy. I could cut you a Delrin gasket if you can not get it to seal. Awesome, I'll post a pic tomorrow. Just slop a tun of gorilla glue all over it, inside and out. That fixes everything doesn't it? Ha, probably! Would have to call every one of my brews "Gorilla" ...

anyone doing an all-grain brew I could observe?
If anyone is doing an all-grain brew sometime soon and wouldn't mind me watching over your shoulder or even helping out, I'd love the learning experience.

Re: waiting for my 3rd bad thing to happen with this brew
I do, I built a fermentation chamber out of a mini fridge and some scrap lumber I had. Got some 2" pink foamboard insulation and sealed it all up, that's where my brew is fermenting now. Even better, my turkey fryer pot that I currently use as a brew kettle fits in my garage fridge's freezer, t...

weldless fitting = leak. tips, tricks, upgrade?
For my last brew, I picked up a no-weld thermobob thingy and a Blichmann brewmometer to mount in my turkey fryer pot. The fittings are about as tight as I can get them (and I experimented from very loose to snug to extra tight), and the damn thing still leaks. So now I have a kettle with a leaky hol...
