Re: Hop growing question

I haven't ever cut my initial bines but my centennial already has 5-6 bines up to my roof and is sprouting hops. I may have to take this harvest soon.

Re: Hop growing question

I've already purchased Galena and Zeus from those ladies and I saw Nugget and Mt. Hood as well plus some 'mystery' hops that weren't labeled.

QA/QC job information

I'm in the process of applying for a QA/QC position at a brewery in MN and I've run into a little snafu: I don't actually know what QA/QC in a brewery looks like. I think I'm well qualified for the lab manager part of it but I've just never done any quality-type work (other than sampling my own stuf...

Re: Immersion fermentation chiller

Yeah...for $300, it seems like a expensive boondoggle; it is a peltier cooler indeed. For my two cents, a carboy is only slightly smaller, footprint-wise, than a small, used college fridge with a temp controller and the fridge is cheaper.

Me too! I only own two tanks, so I rarely got two tanks filled to help with that cost.

Re: LBG Member Deals

I was just at praxair the other day and, after the hard and diligent work of Orvel, they now have a fixed price schedule!

I paid $14 for my 20#!

Re: questions about cider and retail stores

Like Joe, I've used Louisburg too for excellent cider. You have to be very careful though because there is little to no visual distinction between preserved and un-preserved ciders. You have to read the contents closely to check for potassium sorbate (I think). Some will say pasteurized but NOT pres...

Thanks for the info, Angelo. I purchased a few pounds online since I couldn't find it locally and will have to experiment with the remainder to get a feel for it.

Simpsons Golden Naked Oats

Has anyone ever heard of this malt before? I just saw a recipe (Surly Bender Clone on NB) that included it. I'd never heard of it before and from what I've read, it may actually be as unique as the marketers would have me believe. Any thoughts? Secondly, does anyone have any and would they be willin...

Re: Propane Tanks for sale

Ok, that's helpful advice.

If they somehow check the valve out before they give me the swap, what kind of grief will they give me about it? Will it be a charge to replace it?

Re: Propane Tanks for sale

Where can I get that replacement done and how much does it cost?

Oops, maybe I misread Andy's post. Was that $50 to get the valve replaced or just to have it filled?
