Re: LPL How-To Festival 2019

Well... looks like I'm in. (Got the invite to the nieces wedding last week, and they changed the date to the 16th, so I'm back in.)

Re: LPL How-To Festival 2019

I'd bring them myself except I'm supposed to be at my nieces' wedding that day... All I did was put an ounce of grain in a mortar and bust it up a little bit to expose the kernels. Pop them in a tea strainer and put a pint of boiling water on 'em for ten minutes. remove the tea strainer, and you're ...

Re: LPL How-To Festival 2019

Just another idea...

When we did the "learn to brew" at Ernst & Son, we had some "malt tea" brewed up to sample. In addition to samples of different kinds of malted barley, we had tea from those samples for tasting. It went over pretty well.

Re: Experience with Tilt Hydrometer or DIY/homebrew clones

Haven't looked at that, but I've used a "beer-bug" before (a gift from some friends). Isn't really the same thing -- a beer-bug requires a port into your fermentation vessel, where it looks like the tilt hydrometer lets you "seal it in" and it broadcasts to a receiver. What I like about the beer bug...

Just a reminder that your 2017 membership expires at the end of this month. If you haven't already renewed, now is a good time to do so.

2018 Membership Dues

We are a little late getting set up to take 2018 memberships this year. (Thanks to Ken Godwin and Matt Parker for helping me collect the data and get this going again!) But we've got it straightened out and we're ready to go! We will have 2018 Membership cards available at the February meeting (2017...

Re: Who has a great porter recipe? Please share!

I don't have the recipe myself, but I've been meaning to ask Andy Booth or Jeff Jensen to get a copy of the old Entire Butt Porter recipe we brewed for Brewfest 20. My "normal" porter recipe is Jamil Zainesheff's Brown Porter recipe from "Brewing Classic Styles," But I'm thinking of going a differen...

Re: Brewing Demo for Lawrence Creates Makerspace

I've got a whole bunch of information on what we did at Ernst that I can share. And I believe there is probably some interest. I've talked with James about doing another one at the Home Brew Pro Shoppe in Olathe, but I have to get a little further along on my remodeling at home before I can take tha...

Perfect. The forecast says we may get thunderstorms in the afternoon. Hopefully, that won't be an issue.

Glenn is meeting with the city today... we may have the alley blocked off for us too.

Brewing on the Back Porch at Ernst & Sons - June 3rd

We are teaming up with Ernst and Sons https://www.facebook.com/ernstandsonhardware/ to put on a "learn how to homebrew" event in Downtown Lawrence this Saturday morning. If you want to lend a hand, please feel free to come by. This is a new event for us, so we're a little bit "ad hoc" in our approac...

Re: Maifest 2017

I'm planning on brewing at this year's Maifest, and in particular, brewing a Pale Ale for the June 3rd "Brew on the Back Porch" at Ernst & Sons. Anyone who wants to participate on the 3rd, bring your ideas and we'll nail down some details.

See you there.

Brewing on the Back Porch at Ernst & Sons - June 3rd

I just spoke with Gregg Anderson at Ernst & Sons and we've nailed down Saturday, June 3rd for Brewing on the Back Porch at Ernst & Sons. Gregg will be doing some advertising for the event, and we will be brewing some beer. Ernst & Sons will be providing a couple of pre-fab extract beer kits (America...
