See ya later!

Just a quick "fare well" to all in the illustrious LBG since I missed Thursday's meeting and will be long gone by next meeting. You set the bar way high for any future brew clubs that I might experience. I will try to log back on when things are set up in WA and give details. Take care and...

Looks to me like it will hold about two or three salmon. Just in time for fresh wild Alaska sockeye in a few months. Perfect...

Are you dry hopping pellets or leaf? Primary, secondary or keg? I dry hop in the primary and secondary with pellets and just toss them in and wait for them to drop out with the yeast. Usually takes a week or so. In the keg I mostly use leaf hops and use one of those SS cylindrical screens on the end...

You might want to try Northern Brewer or Magnum for bittering and Mt Hood or Liberty for flavor/aroma. Depends on what's available to you and how "British" you want it to be. Willamette hops are usually easy to find and make a fair substitution for Fuggles, as well. Go for it and let us kn...

Yes. Only the ones I have don't have the silly red "one use" taps at the bottom.

Mini-kegs for sale

I have seven 5 liter mini-kegs, assorted bungs and a CO2 tap for sale. A good inexpensive intermediate step between bottling and full sized keg systems. The mini-kegs are in good shape, but no promises on the tap. $10 for the whole set up.

I do single infusion mashes in a 36 qt Coleman Extreme rectangular cooler. Rarely lose more than a degree or two in 60 minutes regardless of ambient temps. Ditto what Andy said on thermal mass. My relatively small mash tun keeps dead space to a minimum - even on relatively low gravity brews. I also ...

Like Andy said, I like your set up. Looks exactly like where I am going to be next year about this time. Just need a keggle HLT and a pump and ... you get the picture. With the Columbus and Mt Hood hops it sounds like Denny Conn's RyePA recipe. I brewed a version of it last year about this time and ...

I probably should have brewed this weekend. Planned on leaving a pilsener in the primary until next weekend and then brewing a rye lager to use the yeast again, but it looks like the weather may make for a chilly session on my patio...better lagering weather though.

Great post! This is what a brewing forum is all about. Kind of like a good brew - complexity adds to the overall impression. But I digress... One other factor that you may want to consider Bill, is the effect of the apparent attenuation of the yeast you are using. Lately, I've been trying out lower ...

Ditto what has been said above. I've been using kegs about 5 years and you won't regret the change. Just an FYI on bottle size; bigger is better with regard to the (seemingly) eventual evolution to bigger batches and greater volumes and the economy that comes with that. However, I got a 5lb tank wit...

Good for you, Matt! My folks did a 2 week tour of the British Isles a few years ago and said Ireland was one of the best places they've ever visited (and they travel ALOT). The people are great and the beer was outstanding from what they said. It was a whirlwind bus tour though, so I can't help with...

Thanks Andy, that's just what I was asking. Honestly, I think I let Charlie Papazian creep back into my thoughts. It seems like he wanted to step mash everything that isn't a British ale (and even some of these).

Just a quick question for you big time all grain brewers. I am going to brew some lagers this winter with some Moravian pils grain that I picked up cheap from NB awhile ago. I've used this grain to make some lighter ales and weizen beers and have gotten pretty good results with single infusion mash,...
