Monster Mill 2 or 3 roller?

I have decided to replace my grain mill. It has served me well for the years that I have been using it but the knurls are starting to wear out and I decided not to resurface them. I am looking at Monster Mill 2 or 3 roller. I am leaning for the 3 roller design. The 3 roller is a little more money bu...

Re: White Labs Yeast

Both Wyeast and White Labs yeast packages are meant to ferment 5 gallons of wort at 1.040 SG and contain 1 billion yeast cells. The container for Wyeast is 125ml and White Lab is 35ml. Both will settle out in the package if left in the same position for some time. Given the fact the White Labs doesn...

Re: Making a yeast starter and stepping up yeast

The 10:1 ratio of DME to Distilled water (roughly 1.040) is what I use in my canning process of making wort starters. I have one pressure cooker that holds four 1/2 gal mason jars, and one pressure cooker that hold 7 quart jars. In the 1/2 gal jars I put 160 grams of DME a pinch of yeast nutrient a...

If you are into pressure canning, the only one that I will recommend is All American brand: http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=sr_in_-2_p_4_0?rh=n%3A1055398%2Cn%3A%211063498%2Cn%3A284507%2Cn%3A289814%2Cn%3A289825%2Ck%3Acanner%2Cp_4%3AAll+American&bbn=289825&keywords=canner&ie=UTF8&q...

Re: Has anyone made pretzel's and used lye ?

Couldn't figure out what I had forgotten: Cuff your gloves when working with chemicals. Numerous times in my career, I have had to empty the glove cuff. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CJJSk8zhmH0/TpsOC_e0-9I/AAAAAAAAAWI/hWBOnk_vY4s/s640/Cuffed_Chemical_Gloves.jpg These are not what I would use f...

Re: Has anyone made pretzel's and used lye ?

At what strength ( amount ) do you use in the water ? Chemistry is not my thing but a warm salty pretzel and cool pils is driving my need to know. Also, Can you use the same lye as a cleaner for the brewery ? Is the strength ratios the same ? If you have any other thought's or warnings let me know....

Re: Batches of Beer

I lost or threw away my records from the early 80's - don't know how many batches I brewed back them. Then took 20 years off. Young Drew talked me into starting again about 7 years ago. Whenever I get off my butt today batch 272 will be brewed That is awesome Dan! I knew you had more than 2 and it ...

Re: FAQ - How to do Tab

So your suggesting more of a "wiki" in the forums... I like the idea, but like any community based projects it takes the work of a ton of people (which we don't have) or a ton of work by a few people ( which we may have). I am working on a video wiki, I will be going through a DYI stir pl...
