Re: Partial boil extract beer in the kitchen questions

I primarily do extract brewing. Your just cookin' grain. Your stock pot will be fine. I usually do a big boil 3+ gallons in a 6-7 gallon stock pot from a turkey fryer. Sometimes I only ad about 1/3 of the extract up front and the rest 15 minutes form the end of the boil. Sometimes I follow the instr...

Re: Building a Kegorator... Need your advice.

I'm feeling ready to start the next phase in the kegorator build. I've already got 3 faucets. Right now I'm looking for 3 three-inch shanks with barbed nipples to mount the faucets. Eventually I plan to expand to 8 taps (1 being stout) and a couple internal gas lines to carb 2 liter bottles of soda....

Re: WANTED: Used smoker

You have been busy my man, looks great! That was some hard work and attention to detail. How about some tips on how you got it to look so pretty? I took rusty parts of it down to the metal where I could with a wire brush/sanding disc and an angle grinder. Otherwise I just knocked off the surface ru...

Re: WANTED: Used smoker

Here's the finished smoker project. I fired it up on Sunday. It got up to 250 degrees in less than ten minutes. Now I just need to get better at holding temp for a sustained period. Hopefully next weekend I'll put some real eats in it and go to town! I'm looking forward to learning more about using ...

Re: WANTED: Used smoker

Here are some pics of the smoker at the end of day 12. More pics to come soon as I finish up the final details. Anyone have some scrap hardwood laying around. I need a plank that measures about 12"x20" by 1/2-3/4" thick or several planks that would add up to that... http://lh4.ggpht.c...

Well, here it is. The infamous smoker. I'll post some beauty shots of the restored unit in a day or two. http://lh5.ggpht.com/_3WCTFCjKJ1c/S7eNPJqRRAI/AAAAAAAAKQQ/KC40b2ZG-U4/s640/IMG_0372.JPG http://lh6.ggpht.com/_3WCTFCjKJ1c/S7eNkXrhb4I/AAAAAAAAKQk/CG_JUhQuNBI/s640/IMG_0373.JPG http://lh5.ggpht.co...

Re: WANTED: Used smoker

I looked around. Cheapest is Capitol Concrete outside of Lawrence. $1.80 per half brick (1.25 inches thick). If you find cheaper let me know, but I think this is a bargain. :?: Capitol Concrete? That out by "Mt. Blue"? Capitol Concrete Products Inc, 1452 East 1823 Road, Lawrence, KS 66044...

Re: WANTED: Used smoker

@Blktre I read up on tuning plates. They sound awesome for horizontal offset smokers, but this one is a vertical offset... I know, but imo the same applies. The deflector shield in the vertical only covers 1/3 of the cooking box width. I still think its a benefit to put the tuning plates all the wa...

Re: WANTED: Used smoker

After I'm done with the wire brush and paint she should look better than new. The next plan is a heat deflector where heat passes into the smokebox and some firebricks in the fire and smoke boxes. I'll see if I can find a charcoal cage as well to put in the firebox. Anyone have a spare metal cage th...

Re: WANTED: Used smoker

Thanks for the offer. I think the first smoker will work for me. It needs a little TLC, but I think I can whip it into shape with a little wire brush, power washing, and high-temp paint.

WANTED: Used smoker

I'm looking for a used smoker. Nothing fancy, just something that'll get the job done while I'm still learning and not quite sure about what I'm doing.
