FAQ - How to do Tab
I am thinking the forum needs a FAQ and How to do folder. Basically a one stop shopping center. Basically an area with goodies: How to make a simple starter. What are the o-ring numbers to rebuild a keg from McMaster-Carr of other places. How to make a slant for yeast. How to freeze yeast. How to us...

Re: Anyone else using a BCS controller?
Ken, I have to agree with Andy on channeling. It is the nature of the beast. I batch sparge and Andy fly sparges and you have what your are calling a no-sparge. I use a manifold on the bottom of the ice chest but other people like Denny Conn use the braided wand. So, if batch sparging, the 1st water...

Darn Fruit Fly
So, here I am trying to make some non bugged beers and doing pretty good with 30 gallons of Pale Ale with WLP060. WLP060 is a pretty nice yeast but it is a blend with lager yeast so it is a little slow to clear but like all yeast brews, it will clear to brilliant if given enough time. So I decided t...

Re: Anyone else using a BCS controller?
EDIT: I just found this info: The teeth on one side of the rod holder are rotated one half tooth to give more adjustment. Doh! how did I miss that? I'll have to try again and see how flipping it over works.  I did some checking on the teeth and to my untrained eye, there does not appea...

Re: Anyone else using a BCS controller?
Excellent. Having never worked with your controller, it appears that you have it close. I must have misread your statement. If you have your control loop tuned too slow, it won't do a good job of catching process upsets and will have a slow oscillation around the setpoint or run with an offset. Soun...

Re: Anyone else using a BCS controller?
...If automatic, I can tell it what temp to reach to consider a boil and then it will automatically go to the 60/40 state. I haven't tested the automatic version yet. Will probably call 210F or so a 'boil' and let it switch to 60/40 at that time. If that doesn't work, I will lower the target 'boil'...

Pondering a Boil Kettle Volume
Rate is by the hour in boil off volume in a beer kettle. In another post on the board, I stated that a volumetric measure is to the top of the vessel, quart jar or a 25 gallon kettle. On my 25 gallon kettle it figures to about 1.26 inches per gallon. Measure the interior of the kettle to the lip (fu...

Re: No more autolysis
I haven't used a secondary in near on 200 batches. I use the kegs as bright tanks. My beer sets in the primary for 2 weeks. If you beer cannot set on the yeast for two weeks, what do you think the chances are that you can buy yeast to use 8) The only time that I secondary is with Belgian ales that w...

Re: filtering tap water
The lady down at the water department is setting us up for water reports for both taps. Lots of info on them, will be working on formatting for the forum. Should have them posted in the near future- in native format, and hopefully in a format that will give a brewer the info he/she is looking for i...

Re: filtering tap water
I have found that to be the case with so many fine beers that I drink from our club off the Clinton tap Andy. And quite frankly RO is a lot of work... You are right the water dept does offer analysis of both taps, actually every 3 months. I'll take charge getting those releases, and work with Sean ...
