amen...and amen... for next time, you may want to rack the beer to a keg from the secondary. Then use a hop bag with a length of fishing line attached to it. I was hopping a 10 gal batch would give me enough head space. Great idea of having the crock up BEFORE filling (sounds like the voice of experience here) as the crock is not light empty.

I have an old 13 gall crock and am looking to doing an open fermentation. Would this be a good container?

Funk for me are flavors you did not intend to have in your beer or just makes it undrinkable. Very subjective.

Why yes I do. I have it setup for a carboy to carboy transfer blow-off, but it could very easily be set up for ball lock. I will bring it to the meeting tonight.
