Re: Soliciting advice from all grain brewers
If you use a keg as a mash tun, you are limitted to about 12-13 gallons at about 1.080 wort (about 25-28 lbs grain). I have done a 1.101 with 31 lbs of grain in the keggle and it was a bugger. If you do not have a keg washer, I would stay away from using the kegs for fermentation. Whatever you choos...

Re: Chest Freezer
Lawrence has a Habitat Restore shop which will sometimes carry the 2x8 or 2x12 cedar boards. It is hit or miss, but if they have them, they are cheap.

Secondary Regulators...
Does anyone have any secondary regulators for sale or looking for a good home for them? Looking for 8.
If not, anyone have a good source (cheap) for secondary regulators?

Re: Chest Freezer
I use an upright full size freezer (it was free) hooked up to a Renco controller. I use it for lagering and cold crashing beer from 33-65F. I agree with Chuck, set the tolerances wide to give the compressor a break. Have mine out in the garage and have not had a lick of problems. A lot of people who...

You pick HOPs...FREE
We planted 5 types of hops this year and did not expect them to do well...but they have. We have a fair amount of hops we have not prepared for. If anyone is doing some brewing soon and would like some fresh hops for the brew, come on down and pick them. We have Magnum, Sterling, Mt. Hood, EK Goldin...

Re: How do you aerate your wort?
I have done it both ways, with the stone and O2 and just as simple as shaking the @#$% out of the carboy...both have made great beer. It is my opinion, a healthy yeast starter with a high cell count pitch is more important than high $$ aeration systems and pure O2. With a good shaking (actually it i...

Re: How do you aerate your wort?
Rob, I think the Chemetron is a medical O2 tank regulator. They have different fittings than the welding O2 tanks and I don't think you can get them filled at your local gas guy (as they are for medical use, are a higher purity filtered and scrubbed O2). If you know someone in the medical field....o...

Re: How do you aerate your wort?
Rob, Take a look at your local pawn stores. They usually have a plumber cutting torch set, acetylene and O2 with regulators for both gases and a cutting tourch. I kept the O2 and regulator an sold the rest of the stuff. Paid $180 for the set and sold the acetylene and cutter for $100. Harbor freight...

Re: Benefit Beer
Joe, Been looking for a good excuse to brew some beer...what kind of beer you want? Can brew up a 10 Gal batch his weekend for the cause. Give me a beer you want and I will get the yeast cooking tomorrow. October...right around Fall Festival at good old BC. Use to date a girl from Goessel.... :D Jason

Re: How do you aerate your wort?
I use a 2uM aeration stone inline after my CFC with a 5# O2 tank with a regulator. As Andy stated, a #5 tank will last a good part of your brewing lifetime. One thing to think about is to add a shut off or check valve before the stone. If you don't you could get cleaner or wort up into your regulato...
