New t-shirt you might like...

While I was trying to find some inspiration for the Brewfest 17 T-shirt designs, I decided to work up a couple of ideas that I'd been sitting on. This was one of them. I figured I wasn't the only one who liked the popular "Keep Calm and Carry On" motif, and was sure there was a cool brewin...

It was good seeing you too, Jared. Nice to meet your family also. I hope we can get a Topeka brew day together soon.

Re: Using cocoa nibs

Did you guys buy them roasted or raw? Mine are raw. I've read in several places that roasting them and/or soaking in alcohol like vodka releases a lot more of the flavor (as well as preventing infections). Thanks for any further input. I'd just HATE to ruin a 5 gallon keg of good beer by doing this ...

Re: Using cocoa nibs

Thanks Brick... I got that much. :)

Anybody else have any advice? Amounts to use? Advice on roasting them? Experiences with "dry nibbing" in kegs? How long they need to be in the beer for best results? Other concerns?

Thanks!

Re: WANTED: 1/6 barrel keg for kegging beer

Hey mushhawk, Glad you found a keg to buy. It's nit-picking on my part, but you'll want to refer to it as a ball-lock corny keg, not a 1/6 barrel. They're roughly the same volume, but really, it's the connectors that make a keg (and when people say 1/6 barrel keg, they typically mean a Sanke connect...

Using cocoa nibs

I've made a pretty solid oatmeal stout for Brewfest this year, but I'm considering adding some cocoa nibs for added chocolatey goodness. But I've never used them before. I managed to purchase some "Raw Organic Cacao Nibs" (12oz). I hear I'll probably want to roast them prior to using them....

Re: 2012 Great Nebraska Beerfest

Just a quick follow-up to Jim's excellent wrap-up... it WAS a great festival, despite the rain, or maybe because of it. Only the true, die-hard craft beer fans came out, so the douchebag quotient was kept to a minimum. It was great to see Kansas so well represented. I believe you're right about Cind...

Re: WANTED: 1/6 barrel keg for kegging beer

All my builds can be "un-converted" if necessary and still work as intended. Something just doesn't set well with me messing around with the internals of a thermostat. +1 -- well, except for drilling holes for taps through the door of a fridge. But then, who would want to EVER un-do that?...

I know, Jeff. It sucks having such an inspired and motivated person around, constantly making us lazy bastards look bad.

Any chance I could borrow your big 3 and a half inch...

...hole saw? Does anybody have a 3.5" hole saw for metal that I can borrow? :) I'm finally adding a second pump to my brewing rig, and I want to convert another 50-cal ammo box into a pump housing for it. The first one has worked out SO well. Plus, when they're both in matching boxes, they'll b...

Keggle cleaning on brew day?

Anybody have any tips on making keggle washing easier at the end of the day? I'm getting a great upper-body workout every time I brew (because I brew solo, without a permanent rig, which means setting everything up, brewing, washing everything, and putting everything away each time I use it). No per...

Looking for some English/Irish Ale Yeast (WLP002, 1084, etc)

I just placed an order at JWL for some WLP002 English Ale Yeast, but it won't arrive until Thursday at the soonest. So I wanted to see if anyone else might be willing to part with a tiny bit that I might start stepping up sooner, or a viable cake being racked off soon, etc. Just looking to increase ...

Re: large glass carboy, window a/c, and countertop hop freez

Damn it. This is seriously becoming a thing, isn't it. You people with your stuff I want at prices too good to pass up, making it virtually impossible for me to save any money. *smirk*

Any chance of posting a photo of the freezer, Orval? More details would be appreciated. :)
