Interesting Evening
I didn't make it to Andy's :x social brew this morning since I was deep into a project so I called him to wish him a good day. Andy had a good day to brew with and hope all went well. Called Steve B. this evening after he got off work and told him that his yeast was ready. I gave him enough yeast fo...
Re: WTB: 1056
Steve, I have 1056 on the stir plate right now. I can increase the wort and give you a full pitch if you like>Steve Brown wrote:Does anyone have a spare smack pack or start of 1056? I plan to grow it, so a small amount would be fine....
Thanks,

Yeast Calc
Here is another yeast calculator that I like to use:
http://www.yeastcalc.com/index.html
I am building up an old yeast starter so yeast calc is really nice since it does stepped starter solutions. I find it easier to use than the Wyeast stepped starter interface.

Re: Pool table
Sorry that i am bad with names. I ran into a member in Sears on tuesday that was looking at a pool table. Thought you might like looking into this one. http://lawrence.craigslist.org/zip/2905265495.html Free is good! But, one has to ask why. Before someone snaps this up, make sure the table is set ...

Re: Praxair/CO2 questions
I have a 5# and a 20#.
The 20# is the workhorse tank for beer transfer into kegs, keg cleaning and such.
The cost for a 20# fill versus a 5# fill is very little money.
The 5# is just for the serving kegs.

Re: Yeast Starter - the Growing Process
Great post Chris! I find that I go through quite a bit of Starter media in my process. I have always felt a minimum of 2 liter starter is needed, to not only activate cells, but to actually grow more...you have me thinking-- and saving in some starter juice in upcoming batches! :bounce: In your pro...

Motorized Grain Mill Ratios
Here is some help in pulley ratios for a grain mill. Since a grain mill runs at a fairly low speed, cast zinc pulleys should be fine for the application. Cast zinc is fairly cheap also. Assume that you find a 1/2 electric motor that works and has an RPM of 1750 on the nameplate and is 110 volts. Thi...

Re: Yeast Starter - the Growing Process
Tonight, I am doing a 250 ml yeast in suspension starter from the last batch. I poured off 1 liter for from previous batch. This will be batch 3 or now using 3 liters total. I have made some corrections to the original post, all in italics . There were some private messages about yeast growth and gr...

Re: Yeast Starter - the Growing Process
Thanks! All I try to do is make it cheaper for all of us, that way we can support the kids or buy toys. (Let along, the most important part is to brew more beer :D ) I find it interesting. So, last night, I started with a 1 liter starter solution of 100 grams DME/1 liter of H2O and 96 billions cells...

Yeast Starter - the Growing Process
1 pack ( Wyeast 100 ml or White Labs 35 ml liquid yeast packages ) yeast equals about 96 billion cells by the time you get or less. 96 billion cells will double in 1 liter of wort at 1.040 SG without aerating the wort which equals about 192 billion cells. If you take the original 96 billion cells an...
