Soooo....

As far as using them as primary fermenters, could one just put on the sealing plate & NOT screw down the lid tight to allow bubbling "seepage" without having to use a bubbler/airlock?

If so, I might be interested in one.

You're welcome!

.....just remember the mead comes with a caveat....... The Carta Blanca bottles are the original, straight mead batch (water, honey, yeast, etc. as has been documented before) and the Anchor Steam bottles are the melomel with raspberry & Jamaican allspice that you guys didn't try at the mead tas...

The Perle and Chinook I planted years ago did pretty well.

One of 'em keeps coming up in the same location after a few years of neglect, problem is I can't tell which one.

An epiphany!

Last night after I posted the above spiel I had one of the last 2 Below I've been saving & immediately got the same funky, skunky, what-the-hell-IS-that taste.

Maybe it's the water or something else in all the New Belgiums but it's an across-the-board flavor that doesn't sit well with my senses.

I apologize in advance but here goes:

1. Sure wish I'd read the 2007 review before buying a twelver. 2. Was told it was a hoppy beer but had some unique to put it mildly, flavors. The clerk flat out said he didn't like it. I figured for $9 a twelver, how bad could it be?? 3. Nowhere on the outside of the twelve pack carton was there ANY...

Mead discovery

Can I sit on things or WHAT!?! Cleaning up the basement this past week & I discovered a whole case (24-12oz. bottles) of both the original batch you guys tasted: (The Carta Blanca bottles were a straight mead bottled in May of 1995. 1.5 gal. water, 10lbs. honey, 4 tsp. acid blend, 2 tsp. yeast n...

You asked, here goes.

Your assumptions are correct as is the bit of advice from whomever it was that told you that somethingy. I'm still an extract brewer (jumping things up with grain, spices, fruit, etc.) and always go with AT LEAST a week in the primary and two in the secondary before bottling, if not a few days more ...

Free State scotch ale

Good body, balance of malts & hops, light peaty taste that grows a hint or two more as you finish a glass unlike Sam Adams scotch ale where the smoky-peat is readily apparent from the first sip. Couldn't get too much more out of a glass as I was rushed for time & only had 20 minutes to spare...

Mead tasting whenever it happens.....

As a precautionary measure I tried both my original batch of mead and the braggot today. I expected the original straight mead to have little to no (& I mean NO) carbonation but didn't expect the braggot in the Grolsch swing top bottles to have such a miniscule ffsst when opening. To be honest, ...

Mead tasting

Right-O!

Could probably do the Feb., March or April meeting easy enough.

Just remember, it might be anticipating a huge letdown depending on the (lack of) carbonation but what the hey?!?
