Re: Reusing yeast questiong

I couldn't remember this word - autolysis. Yeah, last night as I was driving home, I was thinking basically what you wrote Steve. I'm only gaining one week from transferring it. The additional exposure is not worth the very low chance of autolysis as I've come to understand takes a lot longer than m...

Re: Reusing yeast questiong

We are brewing a Schwarz Jan. 4. Typically, using Mr. Malty calculator, I will do 3-5 steps, the last step being approx 11 Liters (2.5 gal) in order to have the yeast pitch for the 10 gal 1.059 beer. Occassioanlly, we will reusue the yeast if are brewing on a 2-week cycle (brew, 2 weeks later brew 2...

Free plastic covered Styrofoam pallets

Great for storing grain on to keep them off of the ground, and not on wood. Free, you pick them up. PM if interested. Will throw away in 1 week. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2812/10675575665_0c02f4b7e3.jpg 1104131246 by robmartin51540 , on Flickr http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3691/10675663574_66792...

Ah, yes...since I've stopped handling the grain buys, my own grain supply has been coming down to more manageable (read reasonable) levels.

I'm sure Frank can hook you up.

Re: JWL Closed

What I'm saying is the JWL's supply chain was choking the sh.t out of them. When I can acquire hops cheaper than they can acquire them...not sell them, but acquire them before they begin to turn a profit, they have a procurement problem. This was just the hops. Then when you went to the grain, the 3...

Re: JWL Closed

I went to Brew Lab yesterday. Not a crazy huge selection of grains but very decent and good prices. Good selection of yeast and hops too but they buy the hops in bulk and repackage in clear vacuum seal bags. Probably not the best for long term storage. I suggested repackaging hops like this to JWL ...

Re: Mashing --> single-step vs multi-step

Haven't tried a lager yet, although it's on my list for next winter. I go for a lot of IPA, Ale, Stout type styles. I also want to start including more wheat and a little rye into my recipies. Been using gravity for my lautering out of the cooler mash tun. I haven't splurged for the pump yet, so I'...
