Re: Anyone else using a BCS controller?
EDIT: I just found this info: The teeth on one side of the rod holder are rotated one half tooth to give more adjustment. Doh! how did I miss that? I'll have to try again and see how flipping it over works.  I did some checking on the teeth and to my untrained eye, there does not appea...

Re: Anyone else using a BCS controller?
I brewed my house IPA this weekend. I decided since my efficiency was around 67%-70% from previous batches to try my first party-gyle! The IPA was a 10 gal batch with 24 lbs grain. While it was mashing I heated up 6 gal of water to around 155F in my old brew kettle (7.5 gal turkey fryer). After reci...

Re: Anyone else using a BCS controller?
Also, I've added the Blichmann AutoSparge to the mash tun to keep the level constant. No more fiddling with the pump valve. :D Ok, this did not work as well as hoped. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2381014/BCS/autospargecrop.jpg The AutoSparge has teeth on the valve lever and the arm (see image, circle in...

Re: Anyone else using a BCS controller?
I don't see how a PID will control the boil. Boilovers happen at the boiling point - whatever that is at your house. In my case, the PID is not controlling the boil, it's just used (well, it was used, now using direct on) to bring to the boil and when close to boil, say approx 210F it will change s...

Re: Anyone else using a BCS controller?
...If automatic, I can tell it what temp to reach to consider a boil and then it will automatically go to the 60/40 state. I haven't tested the automatic version yet. Will probably call 210F or so a 'boil' and let it switch to 60/40 at that time. If that doesn't work, I will lower the target 'boil'...

Re: Free brewing book for Kindle from Amazon
Not many pages, so I looked through it real quick. It gives instructions for extract brewing, with an additional chapter on using steeping grains. Nothing on all-grain that I saw. Disclaimer: there is nothing wrong with extract brewing, you can make good beer that way too, I was just pointing out th...

Re: Anyone else using a BCS controller?
So this is a sparge-less system? Yes, it is a no-sparge system. It recirculates strike water from the kettle to the mash tun (cooler) and back to kettle to preheat the mash tun, then after dough-in, it does a continuous recirculate for the whole mash time, with the kettle heater keeping the temp st...

Re: Best way to control Temp in fermentation
...Cooling can be done with a fan and cloth draped over the fermenter with the cloth extending into the water to keep it moist. For a carboy, some people use an old t-shirt and the carboy 'wears' it. Just make sure it hangs down far enough to be in the water in the tub (as Jim pointed out). It may ...

Re: Anyone else using a BCS controller?
That is cool. I need to check this out one of your brew days..... Thanks. I live in Gardner, but if you are willing to drive, I'll gladly have you come check it out and have some brew. :) Im asking a possible dumb question, is the only ground on the keggle at the element bulkhead? I see a inline GF...

Re: Anyone else using a BCS controller?
Fantastic! Great Presentation of the set up too! 220v, my brew partner, I am sure, is drooling. Any Problems with scorching anywhere in the process so far? Thanks for the comments. I've only brewed one batch so far (5 gallons of a northern English brown ale) and it worked great. It's just now carbo...

Re: Anyone else using a BCS controller?
Grabbed a pic of the interface (not actually brewing at the time of pic, so temp values are 0 - not connected). Note that my drawing/layout skills are lacking :P but it'll do for now. I set it to the Mash process. The heater is on (red light) and being PID controlled to maintain 156F, and my hose co...

Anyone else using a BCS controller?
I just finished my electric keggle conversion a few weeks ago. I am using a BCS-460 controller. I built a control panel with switches for my pump and heater element. I can turn them on manually or set it to auto and the BCS can control them as needed. The interface is my iPad, but I could also acces...

Re: SOLD 10 pin-lock corny kegs for sale - $200
Didn't think they would last long.
No one wanted all 10 at once, so I upped the price for splitting them up, which of course worked out well for me.
Sorry Jensen, you missed your chance to get some!
