Re: Pilsner yeast
As an aside, what do people think of dry yeast in general? I guess it's probably the same stuff if you culture it twice to get it really healthy but...I don't know. In general, I really prefer liquid, particular White Labs. I used to be a Wyeast guy, but I had a couple of bad packs in a row so I sta...

Re: Mashing --> single-step vs multi-step
I have a very nice HERMS set up....and don't even use it. I tend to brew just about more lager than anyone I know in LBG sans Jim McGovern (if I'm overlooking somebody, sorry). Hence my current on tap: Primary: empty Secondary: Schwarzbier On tap: Maerzen, Czech Pils We use a cooler mash tun which i...

Re: CO2 Tank Refill Locations
Wanted to give you a reply, but don't know what to tell you. I swap out all my tanks. The first time I got rid of my brand new CO2 tank was a bit unnerving, but in the long run it is a lot simpler.

Want to trade Dark Candi Sugar for Light Candi Sugar
I have this: http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/soft-candi-sugar-brown-1.html Brown candi sugar is perfect for an amber to dark beer. Does not contain molasses or any artificial color. 60 SRM, SG contribution of 1.038 ppg. Not the large rock sugar of the past! These sugars have a unique flavor and a...

Re: Low attenuation and/or O2 stones
Thanks Orval. The first 2 paragraphs described my setup exactly. I usually soaked the stone at the end of the hose long enough (10-30 min) that Starsan would seap into the stone and up the hose line. Then I would push the starsan back out with O2 immediately before using it. For storage, I would pla...

Re: Low attenuation and/or O2 stones
Lastly - for those of you that use O2 stones, how do you sanitize them? Soaking them in Star San for 5 minutes didn't seem like it quite did it. I've heard of people boiling them. It is a Stainless Steel air stone.

Low attenuation and/or O2 stones
Have a 2 part question that I think may be related. First, last several beers have been on the lower attenuation rating scale of any yeast I use. Not any one particular yeats, just all of them. Sometimes it even is 1-5 points lower than the range the yeast is rated at. Suggestions? Secondly, I use t...
