Re: Interesting Brewing Articles
http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2013/01/04/168561089/dont-waste-that-christmas-tree-turn-it-into-spruce-beer Pretty bad idea! Any flavor that you get from a dried up Christmas tree is probably from the paint or preservatives that it was treated with. It has a good link to a place to get fresh/froze...

Re: Danstar BRY-97 American West Coast Dry
Thanks for the info, Andy. At 5 dollars a packet, using more than 4 per 20 gallon batch is no bargain. I guess it saves making a starter, but unless the final results are amazing, I'll stick to liquid yeast.

Re: Danstar BRY-97 American West Coast Dry
I am curious as to others experience with this yeast. I am disappointed. The lag time between pitching and full on fermentation was much longer than I usually experience with liquid yeast that I have stepped up. I used 4 packages in 18 or so gallons, so it should have been plenty. I followed the ins...

According to the literature, Star San has a contact time of 30 seconds, not that it will hurt anything to have it in contact for longer, but it is not necessarily necessary.

Re: Copper Head clone
The brewers at Free State are usually pretty open with their recipes. I would just go in and talk to Geoff, Kevin or Tommie and see what they have to say.

Re: WTB Cara-Pils and Crystal (40,45 or 60)
I can help you with the simcoe, too, but I might need a couple bottles of the finished product. As you may have noted in some previous posts, there is really no sub for simcoe and a Pliney clone without it, is just not right! Not sure about my next week schedule, but I should be around most evenings...

Re: WTB Cara-Pils and Crystal (40,45 or 60)
Jared,
I have those two items. All I ask is a bottle of the finished product.
PM me if you want to come by and pick them up, I live just south of 23rd on Vermont.

Re: Fruit in beer ratio question
From our limited experience with adding fruit to beer, I would say that a pound per gallon is about right, but certainly depends on the amount of flavor that you want and the amount of flavor available in the fruit. Using a bag would limit the amount of flavor transferred to the beer.

Might be a bit more than 30 minutes, but Wilson State Park is one of KS nicest parks. It is just east of Russell. And while you are there, don't miss the Garden of Eden and other outsider art in Lucas, KS.

Matt, I have some Dextrine malt, which I understand to be the equivalent to Cara Pils. If you want me to bring some to the meeting let me know.
