I believe many of the brewers that use tap water run it through a water filter to knock out chlorine, and some of the heavy metals and other nastiness. There are some good threads on the forum discussing the use of these filters.

We had quite a bit of roast flavor using carafa in the whole length of the mash, even with promash giving us JUST enough for color... I think Sean's late addition, or even better, Andy's cold steep method would add the color and the smoothness of the dark grains. The dark grains I think clash too mu...

I buy most of my Hombrew supplies right here in KC. But there are certain gadgets or "hard to finds" that require an Internet search and purchase. My three go to places for certain things are Williams, Norther Brewer, & More Beer. They all support certain brewing podcasts that I listen...

Actually, Ace Hardware sells a sump pump without a float switch, and the garden hose fitting is right smack in the middle of the housing (the one I used at the seminar) for super easy plumbing. Add a $12 foot switch from Harbor Freight and you are absolute golden. Oh yeah, and it is 1/6hp which is P...
