Looking for....

#1 Post by sam » Fri Mar 18, 2011 12:11 am

I am looking for 3 or 4 large black plastic barrels with lids. Like the big industrial barrels that come in blue and white. Of course, cheaper is better. Anyone have a line on such an item?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Not sure of your use, but approx. 1/2 mile East on 56 highway off of 59 junction (towards Baldwin) there is a guy that sells 55g plastic and metal drums. Its a mobile home on the South side of 56 highway. Thinking prices are 10-15 bucks each.

Thanks, Andy. Do you recall seeing any black barrels or just the usual blue and white suspects?

His stock changes so I can't say for sure. But its worth the drive out there.

Let us know if you find black barrels anywhere, please. I have only been able to find white and blue at his place.

I'm just curious why you'd want the black ones, over the white or blue ones? Food grade is food grade, no? Besides, the black ones seem like they'd be harder to keep clean.

Well, I can only speak for myself. . . . but I am not using them for brewing. I would be using them for rain barrels and darker is better. Less chance for light to get in and moss/other water plants to grow in it.

We are also, in the future, going to have a small greenhouse in our backyard and I have a DIY project that will heat the greenhouse in the winter using only the power of the sun and two of those black barrels.
