Pliny the Elder... FINALLY!!

#1 Post by Bill » Sun Sep 14, 2008 4:10 pm

Yes, I finally got to sample Pliny the Elder. Well, I guess several pints a night isn't really sampling. I was at my usual watering hole Pacific Coast Brewing and they had Pliny on tap. Talk about a great beer!

Color was a slightly cloudy, very dull amber, almost pale orange.

Aroma screamed of citrus, mainly grapefruit. Below that was a nice malt hint with some pine.

Mouth feel was mellow considering it was a IIPA. Citrus bite with a smooth finish. The exhale after the drink was a great mix of citrus and pine, almost like chewing on a grapefruit rind. Again, smooooth. Low carbonation. Lighter than I would have expected.

Over all, I'd give this a 4.8 out of 5.

The first night I had their ESB on nitro, then Pliny then the HUGE mistake of finishing the night with a Stone Arrogant Bastard. After Pliny, Bastard is not very palatable.
Thanks!
