Stone Mill Organic Pale Ale

#1 Post by Bill » Thu Jan 18, 2007 12:00 am

Stone Mill Pale Ale
Certified Organic by the USDA
"A classic taste that is the perfect balance of maltiness and hop bouquet"
Made by Green Valley Brewing

I bought this at Brian's Liquor in Auburn. $7.99 for a six-pack (12oz). I chilled it to 42* for the tasting.
Little to no head retention.
Malty aroma with a very mild hint of hops.
Color was a very pale amber, it almost looked like a light bourbon or scotch in the glass. Very clear in the glass.
Very smooth flavor with a slight bitter hop finish. Solid mouth feel that started light, but the flavor lingered after you finished. Left my mouth watering after the flavor diminished.

Their web site (http://www.stonemillpaleale.com) states that they use organically grown Metcalfe and Harrington barely malts from Canada with Cascade and US Hallertau from the "highly respected farms in the Pacific Northwest".

Very nice brew, nothing that I would consider to be outstanding, but I would buy it again, thought the price is a bit on the high side for me. If it was an outstanding beer I wouldn't mind paying $8 for a six pack.

I would give this brew a 7.5 or so.
Thanks!

Is this one made by AB (under the guise of a microbrewery)?

Yup. Taken from their Web site:

the organically certified brewery of Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc
and now that you brought that up, I feel all icky... I think I need a shower now. :pale:

but, to give AB some props, I also noticed that they are selling under the Michelob label a vanilla bourbon barrel ale. I haven't tried it yet, but I think some others in the Guild may have.
Thanks!

i had the bourbon barrel for ab.
thin, too sweet, and not worth the time.

i should ad that i am not biased about ab.
they do what they do to appeal to the largest market.
however, with all their money and abilities,
it would be nice if they threw a bone to the rest of us.

then again, if they wanted to, they could probably
put out some kick ass micro style brews only to squeeze
the small indi brewers out of business.

so maybe its a good thing they dont try to cater to us.
