I'm sort of obsessed with her blog. Haven't made this one yet, but the "car bomb" cupcakes are pretty freaking amazing. I made them for St. Patty's day last year.

The stout cake is next on our hit list-- looks just too good to pass up. I think I'll use Guinness' new Foreign style stout in the first batch.

I gave this recipe to my mother to try, as she was researching cakes for my brother's up-coming wedding. Your timing was awesome, Dale. I thought it would make a really cool bachelor's cake, so she whipped up a trial one to check it out.

Now, she makes a great cake, so I'm not sure what happened, but the one she made came out a bit on the dense side, with not nearly enough sweetness to the cake. The heaviness of the cake I didn't mind, but the sweetness was pretty low. It was more bready than cake-like. The ganache was really nice though, with a nice coffee flavor. If the cake itself had only been more chocolate-y, this would have been a really great cake.

If I were to try making it again, I'd do something to increase the chocolate flavor considerably.

Hmmm. Looks like I'll have to test this again (and again and again and....)
Interesting. We thought the choc flavor was just about perfect. I'll make it to bring to the Christmas party.
