Cooking with hops

Has anyone cooked with hops as a spice? I see Jeff's Hop's Fried Chicken viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1646 which is the type of thing I'm looking for.

The idea I have is something like using them similiar to Bay Leaves, where you cook items with hop flowers, but pull them out before serving. We cook our roast with beer, why not hops too?

I put a Corned Beef roast in the oven earlier today. Later, I'm planning on cooking some potatoes, carrots, onions and a little bit of cabbage in the juice/water in the pan. The beef is on a rack that is about 1/2" tall, and currently I have about 3/4" of water in it, so the beef is mostly out of the water. The pan is covered with tin foil.

So, I'm considering placing a few hop cones in the bottom of the pan with the vegetables.

Thoughts?

I know that hop rhizome shoots can be eaten kind of like asparagus or bamboo shoots, but a quick google found some good links on cooking with hop flowers too. I think you want them fresh though, not dried like we'd normally order them.

But, if you're growing them in your yard, like many of us do, then you might find these useful.
