I looking to create an APA that is very dark but won't have any of the burnt/roasted grain flavor. I've got de-bittered black malt but I'm looking for a suggestion on how much to use for a 5 gallon batch.

I would appreciate any suggestions that someone has had success with. I'm brewing tomorrow morning. If your out running the West side of town feel free to drop by at 10 am.

For my Schwarz, in a 10 gal batch I use 1 lb debitterd in a 23 lb grain bill. So, for a 5 gal APA, I wouldn't use any more than 8 oz, and maybe 4-6 would be better.

Thomas Fawcett makes a Pale Chocolate malt that is about 200 Lovibond. Have you ever used that?

So far I've only used it once in a Mild(ish) Ale. In a 5 gal recipe I used .5 lb in a 7 3/8 lb grain bill. The rest was .5 lb Carastan and the rest was Maris Otter. It was OK, not stellar.
