Trying out this ESB, any suggestions?

#1 Post by alex » Tue Mar 13, 2007 2:32 pm

hey, I am planning on running out to A&V's tomorrow to pick up these ingredients for this ESB

5.50 lb Munton's Light DME (5.0 SRM)
0.50 lb Biscuit Malt (23.0 SRM)
0.50 lb Caramunich Malt (56.0 SRM)
1oz Challenger - 60
.5oz EKG - 30
.5oz Fuggles - 30
.5oz Fuggles - 10
.5oz EKG - flameout
1 Pkgs British Ale (White Labs #WLP005)

Any suggestions on ingredients, i.e. subsititutions, things like that?

Thanks :)

by the way, I have to use different hops than the EKG and Challenger, what would you suggest for a good substitution?

You might want to try Northern Brewer or Magnum for bittering and Mt Hood or Liberty for flavor/aroma. Depends on what's available to you and how "British" you want it to be. Willamette hops are usually easy to find and make a fair substitution for Fuggles, as well.

Go for it and let us know how it turns out.
