St. Louis Schlafly HOP in the City Demo Brew

11 Gallons collected, 1.055 OG
40 IBUs
Oatmeal American Brown Ale.


10.25lbs US 2R
4lbs Munich
3lbs flaked oats
1.5lbs Aromatic malt
1lb Crystal 60L
.67lbs Dark Chocolate malt
.25lbs Special B

1oz Cascade 60 min
1oz each Cascade, Centennial and Mt. Hood at 20 min and 5 min
1oz each Cascade and Mt. Hood plus 2oz Centennial at flameout.

Pitched WY 1084 Irish Ale slurry


Those of you who made the trip, this was the beer I brewed at the festival. The only thing I think I would change is the yeast, an American (WL 051 or WY1272) or a English yeast could do it more justice.
Aside from the slight minerally profile of the Irish yeast this is a damn fine beer. Quite malty and chocolately but very hop forward with lots of clean American hop aroma and flavor balanced nicely by the Mt. Hoods.

Hey Drew! The Hop in the City was a good time! Thanks for putting up w/ us :)

How does the Munich in this stand out? I made a brew w/ 4 lbs Munich on top of 13 lbs Marris Otter and the Munich was an over powering flavor, and in my opinion not very desirable.

I love Munich. But it needs to age out a bit when used in higher percentages. Then one day you got a whole different beer.
