November 2008

Seminar
Chuck discussed Officer nominations and that all fields are open, but only my position, Secretary, is open. Shane?s new duties at the 23rd Street Brewery has prompted him to offer up the VP position so he can concentrate on his brewing.

Tasting
The tasting this month was Hard Ciders.
BJCP 2008 Cider Style Guild
Biermeister Matt Bechtold also wanted to move the tasting into the beginning of the meeting when everyone's palates are in better condition then they are at end of the meeting.

Announcements

UFC Bound?
Our resident cage fighter Tyler Perry won his first MMA fight in October. He destroyed his opponent in 1:10 of the first round forcing him to tap out with a rear-naked choke. Congrats Tyler!
His fight was promoted by Caged Promotions, LLC.

LBG Gear
Clint Wedel has LBG stickers for sale at $2 each. They are a large white oval with black LBG letters. You can contact him directly or through the Forums to get yours.

3rd Annual Boxing Day Blood Drive
Nate Poell announced the 3rd Annual Boxing Day blood drive on Friday December 26th. You can donate at the Community Blood Center until 3:00 pm. He plans on heading over to the Free State Brewery and will buy a brew for those who donate their precious blood. You may want to get some food before the beer.

LBG Library
The LGB library has been a common topic lately and Chucked asked that Guild resources that have been previously checked out/borrowed are returned when people are done them so we can get a full inventory of what resources are available. There is a forum thread up discussing this as well as a forum thread to check out the material.
Chuck used the term ?tub of resources? in reference to the library, which I feel is a fitting moniker.

The Biermeister is to hold control of the ?tub of resources?.

Ken has 2 copies of some Basic Brewing videos for those wishing to borrow them.

If you have any books that you would be willing to donate to the Guild Library, please offer them up for other members to utilize.
Please do not make illegal copies of brewing resources by duplicating CDs and DVDs that are not available for free. We need to support our craft by keeping our educational resources in business.

Old Business

Treasury Report
Our Treasurer wasn?t present for the meeting.

Memberships:
$16 for single (single, you know, as in one)
$24 for family (two adults and yer kids).
Contact Xan Wedel (treasurer@lawrencebrewers.org) to pay and/or pick up your laminated membership cards (courtesy of Zach Staats. Thanks Zach!) Check out his site at www.peaceloveart.com.

New Business

Guild Graphics
Chuck asked for the ?artistically inclined' to step and offer up your skills and artwork for the events. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Barry?s work and it is very much appreciated, but anyone that would like to throw their art into the ring for special events, you are more that welcome to do so.

Not for profit status of the guild.
The Bylaws and Charter for the guild have also been a hot topic lately. If you check out the Forums you can visit where Sean has posted up some links of existing charters.
Sean said we might be able to get our previously submitted Charter and Bylaws from the state when we contact them to bring our status back into standing.

A motion was presented to for a committee (officers or not) to get this information setup, created, processed and put out on the Forums for approval.
A Forum thread will be created for those wanting to join this committee. Please only sign up if you can commit the time to the project.

LBG Christmas Party
The Christmas part is being discussed and Free State Glass has offered up their space for us. They will trade their upstairs hall for the LGB Christmas party for LBG members bartending at the Free State Glass party.
If you offer up your services, Jeff Jensen said that this will be a fast-paced bartending shift. Including changing 15.5-gallon kegs and other bar duties. Drinking on the job is?. part of the job.
The Free State party is also a good place to go for their party so you can offer up some time and then join the party.

The proposed date/time for the LBG Christmas Party is Saturday the 13th @ 6pm. A thread needs to be started in the Events section of the Forum

December Meeting
It was asked if there would be a December meeting and the Ayes have it, there will be a December meeting.
