(I originally posted this on 12.12, but it appears to have disappeared. So I've reposted it.)

Minutes for LBG Meeting, 12.11

Chuck welcomed the new people, thanked people for bringing beer, chairs were set up differently, facing the beer table and putting Chuck between the membership and their beer... eventually, the women revolted and 2-minute breaks were had. :)

Business Discussed:

Announcement: Nominations for officers
Vice-Pres open, Pres might be open, Secretary is open, nominations of course welcome for all positions

Holiday party at Free State Glass, (9th and Rhode Island)

Membership renewals for January meeting -- Talk to Xan (Treasurer)
Best $16 (indiv.) / $24 (family) you'll ever spend
Brewfest, Maifest, Holiday parties and other guild events
Discounts at brewshops
Access to members-only section of forum
great resource for expertise, advice, building stuff, bulk buys for grain/hops/equipment, field trips to breweries, peer group to share info and advice

Quick news on the bylaws/charter being developed (can be read on the forum in Member's Only section)
We have a good complete draft that is being discussed on the forum, to be voted into effect after the January meeting
Motion made by Sean to get the draft voted on in January
Others felt that it needed more discussion, one more meeting to hash it out (January) and vote to be had in February, changes to be suggested on the forum.
Ellen "put foot down" that it's going to be voted on no later than February and put into effect then.
Thanks for the great work, committee!

Brewfest scheduled for September 12 this year (second weekend this year, rather than fourth), campsite rented.

Maifest / AHA Bigbrew is scheduled for May 1 and 2

Cleanup and recycling volunteers for tonight: Eugene, Rick and Steve (new guys) Thanks guys!

Holiday party on Saturday:
Everyone bring a side/appetizer and beer!
If you're going to invite a non-member friend, suggestion made to have them bring a side and six-pack so they're contributing

Party committee announcements from Jeff:
Dale Wheeler has taken over logistics for the food
Starts at 6pm, goes to midnight or so
Johnny on the Spots will be rented and outside, please use them.
If peeing outside, gents, don't get busted like John.
Propane heaters, if you have a propane tank, please bring it.
iPods? Bring 'em. We need someone to bring a boom-box with a line-in jack
Bringing a keg? Bring your own tap and gas ? we're not bringing the towers
Also, please clean up afterwards, don't just leave. Police your mess.

John brought up 10-tap tower improvements (drainable drip trays) and add drip-trays for old 3-tap towers ? called for a vote to allocate money (~$200-250)
Motion was made, seconded and passed

Website improvements from Sean ? database upgraded and data migrated
Cause of slowness on forum recently
($200 is a reasonable ceiling, probably can be done for a lot less)
Several on forum concurred that it needs to be done
Motion was made, seconded and passed
Once final bid is in, Sean will let us know
Downtime will be minimal ? roughly four hours

Nominations for officers:
Chuck nominated to continue his term
Brick was nominated for Vice Pres.
Additional nominations can be made on the forum, right up until the vote in January
Ellen nominated for Secretary
Lisa nominated for Secretary
Xan not running again for Treasurer, but was nominated anyway :)
Sean nominated for Treasurer
Lee nominated for Biermeister
Victor nomintated for Biermeister
New librarian position nominees: Kay and Devin

New People attending tonight:
Rick Brown, KU student, brewing for a little over a year and brought some Octoberfest
Aaron Cole, first meeting, wants to learn to make better beer than Mom (Melissa) and Dad (Rob)
Steve Brown, formerly a brewer from Little Apple Brew Club in Manhattan, hasn't brewed for a while and has decided to come back to the fold.

New Business:
Glass etching of carboys demonstrated by Ken Buck
He uses glass etching acid available at Hobby Lobby (Armor Etch) and stencils to etch volume markings on his carboys. Cool demo, Ken. Thanks!

Bulk hops order about to be made soon by Sean, if you want hops, get in touch.

Meeting adjourned.

Tasting: Spiced/Holiday Beers
Joe's Spruce Holiday Ale
Avery Old Jubilation
Ken Buck's Christmas Spiced Ale
Gouden Carolus Noel
Brick's Dark Belgian Strong
Anchor's ?Our Special Ale? Holiday Ale

Thanks to all who brought homebrew for the tasting!

Lisa suggested additional palate cleansers for tastings ? Will set out pitchers of water for between rounds in future. Crackers alone weren't cutting it.
