LBG meeting mintues from January 8, 2009

Chuck welcomed new visitors
New visitor, Frank, brewed his first homebrew 3 days ago, welcome Frank!

KC Beirmeisters Competition at the Winery (Feb 20 & 21, 2009)
All submissions must be to B&B by February 7, 2009

New By-Laws discussion and vote held
Revised by-laws on the forum, only two new changes (seen in red)
Discussion on term limits:
Term limits could encourage new people to step up, but if the
membership likes an officer who is willing to do more than 2 years,
they should also be able to keep performing their office.

Vote held, no term limits has the aye. This could always be amended later. But for now, no term limits passes.

By-laws voted on and passed unanimously after the term limit discussion and vote.

A return to seminars at meetings!
We hope to have the new officers push this for 2009
There's a forum thread for seminar suggestions. Let's revisit that and move it to a more visible section.

Forum repairs
The forum repairs are in progress and should be finished tomorrow.

Library materials
Please return any LBG library materials that you have, so we can recompile the library and hand it over to the new librarian, Devin.

Please contact him on the forum (via the library thread) to arrange for returns, check-outs, and donations of new materials to the lending library.

If you have materials in your library that you no longer use, but someone else might get use of, please consider donating to the library.

Glassware
If you have taken glassware home from the UUF, please return them!
We should have ~80 glasses in there, and there's maybe 30 now.

Officer Vote
Went over the nominations for officers made at the previous meeting:
Ellen nominated for President
Brick was nominated for Vice Pres.
Lisa nominated for Secretary
Xan nominated for Treasurer
Sean nominated for Treasurer
Lee nominated for Biermeister
Victor nomintated for Biermeister
New librarian position nominees: Kay and Devin

Voting began, starting with the Librarian and working our way up the totem. The winners are listed below:

2009 OFFICERS:
Librarian: Devin Zell
Biermeister: Lee Meisel
Secretary: Lisa Hallberg
Treasurer: Xan Wedel
Vice President: W. Russell "Brick" Brickell
President: Ellen Jensen

Congratulations new officers!

It is so ordered that Ellen Jensen will be added as signer on the account, replacing the preceding president Chuck Ferguson.

Chuck made a heartfelt speech, mentioning all the events and things that were great in 2008. “It was a blast.” A toast was raised and a round of applause was given.

The torch was then passed to Ellen.

New Business:

Ellen covered new business as described in the by-laws:

Recycling was revisited.
It was reported that the Unitarian Universal Fellowship board needs to pass it, but there's been resistance, OR someone can volunteer to take bottles to recycling at Wal-Mart on way home.
Discussion will be held on the forum.
Please take your bottles home with you until then.

Re-filing with State for not-for-profit
Ellen and Xan did the research and here's the breakdown:
$20 filing fee
$340 in late fees
Being able to change to a new bank was one incentive, the old bank wouldn't make address changes as officers changed without massive hassle. To change though, we needed to reinstate our filing.
Re-filing and getting caught up on fees was voted on. The motion carried.

Commercial Tasting:
Central Waters Brewing Company, Amherst, WI.

Rather than a style tasting, we did a “brewery” tasting. John Monaghan was in Wisconsin recently and brought back some beers rated very highly on Beer Advocate. They included the Happy Heron Pale Ale (APA), Ouisconsing Red Ale, Mud Puppy Porter and the Bourbon Barrel Barleywine that took gold at GABF.

The general consensus was that the Happy Heron was actually more of a buttery duck, the Ouisconsing Red was a gateway beer for B.M.C. drinkers into real beer – a clean, crisp finish but nothing outstanding about it. The Mud Puppy Porter went over fairly well, but was also disappointing compared to its ratings. The only clear favorite was the Bourbon Barrel Barleywine.

Oh well... a sincere thanks to John for his efforts to bring something awesome back to Kansas for us. Please keep us informed for your next trip and keep trying this. Despite the let-down, the concept was solid and appreciated by many.

Also, my sincere thanks to all of you for making this a fun year as your Biermeister. I'm sure I'll revisit the post again when I'm done with school. In the meantime, I'm sure Lee will do an amazing job.

Reason: Include full name information of 2009 officers and document transition of account signators, required for transfer of accounts.
