2009 February 12 LBG Business meeting

Pre-meeting:
Tasting: Porters - 3 samples – Brick’s (the first) was the most popular.
Seminar: Jeff – how to make a yeast starter, techniques, tips and tricks.

::::MEETING:::::
Ellen Jensen asked for any new people, introduced:
Mark and Brian
Larry – home brewer, Quality Ale Fermentation Fraternity (QuAFF – San Francisco).
Bob Burton – friend of Brick, just getting started
Linda Solerno – friend of Brick, just getting started
Phil Bradley – used to brew in college, just getting started again
(I missed some people and some of the details. Sorry.)

Clean up crew: Devin & wife and Mark and Jeff

Xan has membership cards – can be laminated on-site! Come see Xan! She also had the new member brochure and passed them out.

Sign up for seminars – see list at front

Library:
Devon. We have books! If you have a book out (and over due), please bring them back. If you're going to have books for more than a month, please let Devon know, lest you get posted on the “wall of shame”

New books proposed to be purchased – approved and passed.

Upcoming events:
Big Brew: Belgian Saison, SS Dark Mild (?), for MaiFest. May 2nd. Need to organize a few people to be a MaiFest committee for food, glasses, stuff. Volunteers:
Sean, Jeff, Joe, John, Tucker

St Pat's Day Parade Auction: does LBG want to donate tickets to auction for Brew Fest? Discussion: Xan suggests MaiFest rather than BrewFest. There is concern that BrewFest is too... big... an event. MaiFest would give folks a chance to see brewing in action, etc.
Voting: some in favor of MaiFest. None in favor of BrewFest. Discussion of option. Passed.

Field trips: Boulevard. 23rd Street. Need someone to be Coordinator, get bus, talk to Boulevard, get coordinate. John M: suggest a Saturday to coordinate with KC Roller Warriors event, or Tbones game. $600-$1000 for nicer bus. Melissa suggests she could drive from 23rd (school bus). Volunteers for committee: Jenson, Matt, Monaghan.

Other business:
Joe Yoder: bands for BrewFest – need help because most bands will be at Winfield. Drop Joe a note on the forum if you know anyone.

Logo Contest: Use an online site to put it on a web site (like CafePress.com) for tshirts/sweatshirts/etc. Shirts can then be ordered to the buyers' preference, slightly more expensive, but no need to bulk order. Logos become property of the club.

Phil Bradley: craft brewers guild of Kansas, started as commercial organization for lobbying organization, now useful for beginning/home brewers. Only 3 months old. Looking for interest from LBG - could be a win-win situation.

Adjurn!! Great meeting, Ellen - thanks!
