Tasting – Lawnmower beers

Seminar: Intro to Kegging
by Brick
The key is getting your keg clean: take it apart, clean and sanitize, check gaskets. Put some CO2 (pressure) in it, to make sure it doesn't have any leaks.
Fill as you would rack: the key is to fill from the bottom up.
Make sure you don't let any contaminants in: cover the opening with tinfoil to minimize likelihood something might fall in.
Keys to carbonation: the colder it is, the easier it is for CO2 to dissolve into the beer. Looking for an equilibrium of proper temperature to proper pressure.
There are charts online for relationship of atmospheres to temperature.
The best way is the right amount of time at the right temperature at the right pressure. Use a pressure gage to test pressure.
Brick suggests carbing from the out-valve, through the long dip tube that runs all the way to the bottom of the keg. He has a gage that tells him exactly how much pressure is on the keg.

Discussion: beware of over-carbonation. Avoid carbonic acid creation affecting taste.
Discussion: dry hopping in the keg.
Need kegs for brewfest? Post to the forum.

Business meeting

Ellen:
New people:
Tyler Arnet, been doing home brewing for 1 year. Found out about the club thru web site
Pam – came with Tom (who was new last month)
Nancy and Orville. Nancy likes to drink dark dark dark beer (Yeah! from the crowd)
Henry – came with Dale, lives in KC, bringing a Pale Ale to Brewfest
Chris – from Germany, brewing since 1995. Master brewer. Has web site.
Gerald and Paul – just getting started.

Clean up crew: Alan and Chris and Mikey and Laurie

Treasurer's report – Xan:
$3218.56 not counting tonight's Brewfest Tickets
Up to 125 paid members! Wow! (and it is probably more than that since Xan kept taking memberships and beer pledges after the meeting).

Librarian's Report – Devin:
Sean donated “Brew Like A Monk”
“Lambics” book has been recovered from the Wall of Shame! It's already checked out again.
Phil Burke donated 4 books. See Devin or the Library section of the forum for book checkout.

Reminder: September meeting is 1 week early, the 3rd of September.

Upcoming event:
2nd of September: Tour of FSB new brewing facility. Sign up on the forum. Ellen will confirm time and place.

Brewfest Committee meeting reports:

Food Committee – Sean:
BBQ team will be KB's Smokehouse again this year. If you need anything purchased, post it on the web site. Prep work will be at KB's for cutting veggies, prepping meat. Committee will meet after this meeting to work out details.
Bring a side dish!

Logistics – Xan:
Andy, Quartermaster, is in charge of set up and take down of tents.
If you're out there on Friday, expect to be out there helping, do your part. If you see stuff that needs to be done, just do it (e.g., changing garbage bags, helping with food, set up, etc.).
Sales of stuff at the camp site is still pending. Xan will follow up.
We need hose: Joe Yoder and Jason (Jdl973) and Lisa can bring water hoses.
Don't drink the beer trough water!
Electrical extension cords: Jason (Jdl973) and Glenn
Rope lights? Club should purchase.
We're over capacity this year, so please car pool, park on site responsibly. We don't want to run around telling people to move cars – it's no fun for anyone.

Beverage Committee – John Monoghan:
We'll have beer. 77 kegs donated so far.
BRING YOUR KEGS! Or we will shame you.
Bring them out Friday if possible, but Saturday is also okay. The reefer truck will be out on site Friday night. If possible, try to have your kegs chilled when you bring them.

Music Committee – Joe Yoder:
Bands have all committed! Yeah! See the forum for complete list of bands and schedule.

New business:
Jeff Jensen – (Drat. Bad secretary – missed it. Sorry, Jeff).
Sean – wants to get a comp ticket for Jim Kimmel for the bourbon barrel.
John Monoghan – dropping out of Ren Fest. Need more planning. Not doing it this year, maybe something next year.

Move to adjourn. Seconded. Done.
