Tasting - Imperials (thanks, Lee)

Doing it casual this time – everyone sit down, we'll pass the single pitcher around.

The term “Imperial Stout” comes from beers that were made in England for the Czars in Russia. Big beers, barrel kegged. Higher starting gravities, higher finishing gravities. Malty beers, chewy beers.

1st beer: Imperial stout. Malty, a little spicy, big.
2nd beer: Also an imperial stout. Compared to the first one: better, maltier, smoother. Roastier, coffee flavors. First was smokier.
3rd beer: Light-colored imperial beer. An "imperial pilsner". Very dry. You can definitely taste the pilsner malt. Little belgian signature to it.

Discussion:
1st beer: burnt sugar, smokey flavor. Beer was Sam Adams'. Traditional British style.
2nd beer: A little bit more popular. "Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout" – award-winning beer
3rd beer is new beer from Boulevard smokestack series, collaboration with Orval: "Collaboration No 1: Imperial Pilsner". Jeff says there will be an open house/meet and greet with Boulevard and Orval at Oread Hotel on Monday. Thanks to Jeff Jensen for contributing the beer.

Seminar – Chuck: on beer competitions. Chris explained competing at KCBM competitions

No nominations for new officers.
Motion to accept officers by acclimation: Seconded, passed.

2010 OFFICERS:
Librarian: Devin Zell
Biermeister: Lee Meisel
Quartermaster: Andy Booth
Secretary: Lisa Hallberg
Treasurer: R. Clint Wedel
Vice President: Russell "Brick" Brickell
President: Ellen Jensen

It is so ordered that R. Clint Wedel will be added as signer on the account, replacing the preceding Treasurer Xan Wedel.

New Business:
Chris: Can KC Bier Meisters borrow the LBG big tent? Check with Andy (Quartermaster), as you are a LBG member, it shouldn't be a problem.
Jeff: Event at Oread. See the Events section of the forum.
John M.: pledge strong ale beers for the to-be-determined event. We may not do it, but if you have something to pledge so we can make a decision.
Sean: Sherry's organizing a chili feed and fundraiser for Haiti relief, donate keg. Check the forum for details.
Lee: Had a member be in the hospital, no insurance, was supported by LBG last year. Another member has had a brain injury, lifeflighted, needs support, maybe a raffle, like last year. Keep an eye on the forum.
John: I have 120+ champagne bottles that I will take to the recycler next week. They're up for grabs if anyone wants some.

No additional business. Motion to adjourn.
Passed.

Sorry couldn't make it to the meeting.

What if some of the 'big ale' proceeds helped the brain injury victim? Just a suggestion...
