July 2010

Tasting: IPAs – a crowd favorite – thank you, Lee!
1st beer: more of the British style: British Port from Oregon
2nd beer: Sierra Nevada Torpedo
3rd beer: Odell’s IPA
The last two, beers 2 and 3, are the American-style IPAs, and they were the preferred beers for the crowd.

Seminar: Sean
Grains and how they work with whole-grain brewing. He brought lots of examples – encouraged everyone to actually try the malt grains, understand the flavors.
Grains and adjuncts – see the chart in the General section of the forum:

New people:
Shawn and Suzanne – been to brewfest, know a lot of folks, brewed with Ken Godwin last year, and want to get more involved. Welcome!

Clean up crew – thanks!
Mikey, Henry, Jeff

Treasurer’s Report - Clint
124 members. As discussed previous years: need to close the club to new memberships before the end of July, basically by Clint’s birthday (July 26th). No memberships for 2010 after this point, as we can't handle a flood of new memberships right before Brewfest. PM (Private Message) to Clint (user twedelc) if you have any questions or need to get in your membership.

Librarian:
Devon: we have books. If you want to check some out, see him.

Quartermaster:
Andy isn’t here, but update from Sean:
Muggs for Juggs: Over $4000 raised. Kim said she raised so much money she’s able to help some of her teammates who needed help with their fundraising. It was a great event - thanks to everyone who came out!

New Business:
Christmas party – we confirmed our reservation for December at Stoney Point on December 11th.
We need volunteers to hosting / handle logistics, make sure we've got paper plates, napkins, taps, etc: Dale and Laura volunteered for that. Thanks.

Brewfest committee meetings:
No committees have had meetings yet, but more information will be forthcoming on the forum.
Food committee: If you have someone who might want to cook/bbq for Brewfest, contact Brick NOW with PM. A decision is going to be made soon, and if he doesn’t have their contact info, they won’t be considered.
If we are going to sell tickets next month, we need to decide on the ticket price.
Motion to keep the price at $40, same as last year. Seconded. There will be a logistics meeting in the next couple weeks.
Beverage committee: Jason: keep an eye on the forum for donations, serving signups, details.
(Overheard: "Oh, crap. I need to brew beer!")
Food committee: (Sean for Brick) – there’ll be sign ups for shifts for helping set up food, etc. Don’t just sign up for beverage cmte shifts, also plan on helping out with food prep and logistics and other set up / take down stuff. It all goes really quick if we all pitch in.
All the details about how to donate beer, help, buy tickets on the Brewfest section of the Forum, under the Members Only Area > Brewfest. Check the “sticky” entries at the top of the forum for specific committees. You can also PM (private message) the committee chairs with questions:
Food: brick (Brick)
Beverage: Jdl973 (Jason)
Logistics: Tuck (Tucker)
