#1 Post by Lucile » Fri Jan 14, 2011 7:38 am

Tasting: cider - club owns a fruit press, club members can use it out if you want to press your own.
Crispin - a brand to try, but wasn't available for the tasting. Cider with belgian yeast.
Lots of discussion: we should start a thread on the forum (yeast, apple varieties, etc.)
1st cider: sweet - WoodChuck Hard Cider
2nd cider: more tart, more wild - Ace Cider (from California)
3rd cider: a perry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perry) - made with pears rather than apples - Fox Barrel Pear Cider
Big round of applause for Lee for having been an awesome Bier Meister. Thank you!

Seminar - Brick - cleaning beer lines, picnic taps, connectors, etc.

Business meeting -
New People:
Jim, Carla, Jake - from Topeka, Jake is a student at KU
Marie - just here for the beer!
Grant - friend of Brick, been brewing for a few years
Scott - friend of Justin's, been brewing for a few years, from Kansas City
Duane and wife (sorry I missed your name) - from Lawrence, just getting started brewing

Clean-up crew:
Grant, Rob and Logan - thank you!

Announcements:

Come out and help with judging, participate in discussions, presentations, tour of Boulevard Brewery, talk by Schlafly's brewer. Banquet dinner at the end. This year's theme: local beers, local categories: American wheat beer.

Motion to retain Clint Wedel as treasurer by acclamation for his second term. Motion seconded and passed.

2011 Officers are:
  • President: W. Russell "Brick" Brickell
  • Vice President: Tucker Craig
  • Secretary: Steve Brown
  • Treasurer: R. Clint Wedel
  • Librarian: Jeff Jensen
  • Beirmeister: Angelo Ruiz

It is so ordered that W. Russell "Brick" Brickell will be added as signer on the account, replacing the preceding president, Ellen Jensen.

Announcements:
Brick: 23rd Street will have their home brew competition again in April, winner will brew at 23rd Street, same as last year. Everyone should enter.

Jeff: Chuck is featured in the latest issue of Zymurgy magazine (http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/p ... rent-issue) on Barley Wine, check it out.

Clint: Did we decide to elect a member-benefit liaison? Have we confirmed that the shops on the cards will still honor discounts, also Praxair, confirmed by Orval. Next year's officers will have to create the position.

Orval: talked to the guys at the Weston Brew Company (http://www.westonirish.com/) and they offered to do a brewery tour with food and stuff.

Barry: there's a new gallery in Weston, and I'm showing in May - if we have the tour after the opening, we could then go see my show.

Move to adjourn! We're done. Welcome to our new officers and thanks to our out-going officers for their good work.

1. When a once extraordinarily hoppy beer now seems pedestrian.
2. The phenomenon a person has when craving more bitterness in beer.
3. The long-term exposure to extremely hoppy beers; if excessive or prolonged, a habitual dependence on hops will occur.

Well done, former leaders!

Jeff, Ellen:  thank you. Thanks to Lisa, there are fine examples of former minutes to guide my future efforts.

Me thinks we'll have to do something about relocating that Brewer of the Year tap-handle....
