Minutes of the November Meeting

We have abbreviated minutes because we did not officially hold a meeting in November. We had a short meeting to take care of necessities following a most informative Free State Brewery tour courtesy of Steve Bracht.

Old Business

Christmas Party Committee: Andrew reported that the date would be Dec. 18 at the ECM at 8 p.m. For more information see the party page.

New Business
Meeting As Usual? There was some discussion about whether to go ahead and have a meeting on our regular day. In the past, the Christmas party has pre-empted the December meeting. Since our November meeting was pretty much (but not entirely) pre-empted by the Free State tour, it was suggested (and unanimously voted upon) that it might be a bad idea to forego a business meeting two months in a row, especially with January right around the corner, which brings us to the next piece of business...

Officers: Come January, it's time to elect new occifers, so be thinking which position YOU would like to have. Current officers, be thinking of likely nominees.

Where Did All The Money Go? We sure conducted a lot of business for not having a business meeting-We unanimously voted to pay the ECM $30 for letting us have the Shocktoberfest on their premises. Especially since we didn't have our November meeting there (and I don't think anybody told them.)

We also unanimously voted to kick in $40 of club money for the fabulous waiter's tip. The waiter did an exellent job of keeping the 20 or so of us with constant beer (and food). We decided to express our appreciation in the way he would most appreciate - cashola.

And last, but certainly not least-We unanimously voted to give Steve Bracht two LBG polos for him and his wife as a small token of our appreciation for the fine tour.

Meeting Adjourned.

Christmas Party

Saturday, Dec. 18 - 8 p.m.

* Ecumenical Christian Ministries
* Bring a side dish and BEER
* Bring your friends and family
* Bring canned food or infant diapers to be donated to Hannah's House in LBG's name

Donations

A recommended donation for our charity aspect of the Christmas Party is diapers for infants (0-3 months) and premature babies; the infant size is needed the most. The diapers are for Hannah's House Foundation: a not-for-profit maternity home founded in 1989. Its mission is to provide a safe, value-based family environment for pregnant and parenting adolescents 10-20 years of age. Hannah's House is funded by resident fees, private donations and grants. The program provides prenatal care, proper nutrition, medical services, educational support and therapy.

Through counseling and educational instruction, the mother will become prepared to make life choices that suit her circumstances after leaving Hannah's House. The purpose of the Foundation is to help a pregnant youth give birth to a healthy full-term baby, to learn and develop the skills of a loving parent, to take responsibility in her education and career development, and to develop values in regard to her sexuality and family life.

You can bring canned goods as well.

Three Cheers for Chuck
Charles Epp, Professor of public administration, was honored at the annual meeting of the American Political Science Association in Atlanta in September. Chuck recieved the C. Herman Pritchett Award, which was given for the best book on law and courts written by a political scientist and published in 1998.

Congrats Chuck!

The Baroni-Rusconi Connection
Doug, Sherry and Harley Holub took a jaunt down I-70 to make sure that Tim, Jamie, and Jordan had found some decent beer in St. Louis. They had found a couple. One they had tried was Schafly's Octoberfest. Sherry thought it was highly drinkable, but Doug was not as easily convinced (Imagine that!).

Schafly's is a product of the St. Louis Brewing Company but is made by some unheard of brewery in Minnesota. Jamie is due with baby boy in early January and is doing a post-doc at Washington University Med School. She disects the eyes out of fruit flys and does some science on them.

Tim is also doing a post-doc, but at Washington University's main campus. He also does some science, something about polymer capsules. Jordan is growing and chattering like crazy, something she inherited from both sides of her family. If you find yourself in the St. Louis area, THE barbeque to eat is from a barn in Eureka called Super Smokers. Kind of pricey but deeeeelishous! We drove 40 minutes to get this stuff, and it was worth it. Almost beats out Guy and Mae's in the rib category.

We were thinking of checking out the Schlafly's Brewpub, but two munchkins proved to be too much for the grown-ups, so that trip had to be punted. Next time we go, we'll definitely check out more than the zoo and the Baroni house.

BrewFest 2000
June 3

Joe has secured Bluestem (the band that played last year) to play for our brewfest next year. We had decided at the October meeting to have the Fest on the earliest June Saturday the band was available. They had June 3 open, so voil?, we have a date. Mark your calendars. This is at least a week earlier than we have done in the past, so we should think about starting to form committees, etc., ASAP.

Free Refrigerator
I have an old (40 years?) 'round top' refrigerator that works that I would be willing to give to anyone that might want it. I believe it is a Coolerator; the handle is broken (but you can still get in), and the door seal could stand to be replaced. Just thought I'd offer it up before pitching it!

Anyone interested can call me (865-3556) or e-mail Doug Houlub (the refrigerator fiend)
