Tasting
This month’s tasting featured Barleywine, in category 19 in the BJCP. Barleywines are all about the malt and full-bodied, strong beers. OG ranges from 1.080 – 1.120; FG from 1.016 – 1.030; 8% - 12% ABV. Specialty malts are less than 10-15% so that it doesn’t get too sweet. Tasted were: Boulder Beer Killer Penguin 10% ABV; Chuck Ferguson’s 12% (1.121 – 1.028); Angelo’s (1.125 – 1.0129); and Free State Old Bacchus Barleywine, 10.5% ABV.
Seminar
Frank went over bulk buys. Bulk Buys are a benefit of membership and intended primarily for members. Ordering is web-based; check the forum and read the rules. Please post in the proper form – it helps save time and keep things accurate. Groups can split sacks; there is a separate thread for splits. There’s a small surcharge to help cover losses, a brewfest ticket and gift for the receiving business. PayPal is an option; check for the process to avoid fees.
