LBG Minutes – March 2012
Business Meeting
Lots of new people: Matt + 2, Jeff, Chuck, Justin, Kari, Eric, Dave, Seth, John, Caroline. Welcome! (Let me know about spellings and I’ll correct them.)
Clean-up was by Eric, Jake, Kari, Jason, Bruce, and many more. Thanks!
Librarian – Jeff went over check-out procedures.
QM – Andy talked about equipment reservations.
Treasurer – we have about $7500.
Field trips were discussed. At this time, it looks most likely that we’ll go to Blind Tiger and Tallgrass on April 28. Guild voted to budget up to $1000 for transportation expenses.
Upcoming events:
*23rd Street – two firkins: double Irish Red and Irish Stout on March 16th.
*Parkville Microbrew Fest: April 21.
*St. Louis Microfest: May 4-5.
*Mayfest V and Big Brew Day: May 5, 2012, at Sean’s.
*Pints for Pets: May 19.
*8th Annual Muggs for Juggs: June 16.
*Great Taste of the Midwest: August 11.
*Brewfest 17: Sept. 22.
Tasting
This month’s tasting featured German Lagers. We sampled EKU Pils, a German pilsner, 5% ABV, sweet; Hofbrau Dunkel, a dark lager, 5.5% with caramel undertones; Rob Martin’s Munich Dunkel; and Ayinger Celebrator, a doppel-bock style, 6.7%. Angelo gave a short (by necessity!) history of German beers. Weihenstephan is the oldest brewery in the world, established in 768 and licensed in 1040.
Seminar
Tuck had us do a meet-n-greet to introduce ourselves and help us put a face to the forum handles.
Thanks to everyone who brought snacks!
