OK, today's time-critical element is an event for *today* - Firkin Friday at 23rd Street! They're tapping two firkins late afternoon/early evening (5:30-ish, I think).

One is a chocolate rye IPA brewed with collaborative assistance from Guild members Andy, Joe, Rob, Jeff, Jim, and Wanda.

The other is an imperial red IPA which is a collaboration between 23rd Street, Free State, and Blind Tiger.

More minutes to follow.

LBG Minutes – May 2012

Business Meeting
New people – James Hetrick, Mitch and Julia Gonzalez, John McClure, and Paul; let me know if the spellings are wrong!

Clean-up was by row four! Jake, Linzi, and many more. Thanks!

Librarian – Jeff went over check-out procedures.

Treasurer – we have about $8000. There are 115 paid members.

Secretary – Madison confirmed receipt of our payment, and will mail tickets in late June or early July.

QM – Ten-tap works and will have minor improvements. Sean added that with about 25 PSI and cold packs in the tower top, it’s great.

Jim of JWL Craft Brewing said the store will be moving from B7 to B10 and now has an online presence; 10% off for LBG members; order online and pick up in-store; open evenings, all day Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Trip to Blind Tiger and Tallgrass will be scheduled in late July.

Mayfest was a success – see the thread!

Brewfest committee heads: Logistics – Rob; Beverages – Andy and Frank; Food – Jake and Linzi; Music – Joe. Please follow the threads online and prepare to volunteer to help!

Tasting
This month’s tasting featured a comparison between Briess malts – Crystal 40, Crystal 80, and Crystal 120. Angelo brewed three beers with one variation to allow comparisons. All were about 30 IBU using Magnum and Cascade, and 1.054 – 1.011 with a simple malt bill of two-row and 15% specialty grain. Crystal 40 is sweet with caramel-toffee notes. Crystal 80 is less sweet with caramel, burnt sugar, and raisin notes. Crystal 120 has pronounced caramel, burnt sugar, raisin, and prune notes. He also provided a bonus beer – Great Divide’s 18th Anniversary Oak-aged IIPA.
