Librarian – Jeff went over check-out procedures.

Treasurer – balance is about $8000.

Elections are coming up in January! Nominations for officers took place.
Pres – Angelo, Tucker
VP – Steve, Russ, Sean
Secretary – Caryl Hale
Librarian – Christen
Treasurer – Ken
Biermeister – Duane Buscher

The LBG Christmas party is December 8 @ the Train Depot, roughly 6pm to Midnight. Bring beer - BYOB and/or to serve. Bring Sides. There will be a beer exchange(!) – see forum for details. Thanks to Andy for picking up equipment from Andy.

There was a discussion about how to use some of the guild funds. Some of the topics brought up were insurance for equipment and liability, sending members to NHC in Michigan or Austin in 2014, attending the Nebraska Beerfest in Omaha, tags and insurance for the trailer. A motion was made and passed for the officers’ transition team to formalize topics for forum discussions.

Maifest organizers – Jeff, Jim, Cathy. Maifest will probably be at Sean and Sherry’s again.

No December meeting.

Tasting
This month’s tasting featured Sour beers. There are lots of ways to make sour beers. The three primary souring critters are Pediococcus, Lactobacillus, and Brettanomyces; Acetobacter is less common. We had six examples:

1) Berliner Weisse made by Frank. 1.040 – 1.000, only mash hops, 15 minutes boil, lacto + Safale US-05. This style wants lacto sourness and brett.
2) Flanders Red made by Angelo. ?%; 16 IBU; WLP-001 + Roeselare. Red, brown, and lambics traditionally depend on wild fermentation.
3) Monk’s Café Flemish Sour Ale. This ale was aged in Calvados barrels (French apple brandy), had green apple flavors.
4) Petrus Aged Pale, a 7.3% Gueuze.
5) Petrus Oud Bruin, aged sour brown blended with sweet brown.
6) New Belgium Brewing’s Tart Lychee.

Seminar
Frank gave a Powerpoint presentation on Beersmith.

Upcoming events:
*Christmas party @ Train Depot, Dec. 8.
*January meeting – elections.
*Great Nebraska Beer Fest – next August.
**Watch for a new brewery/brewpub in Emporia called Radius!

Thanks to everyone who brought snacks!
Life begins at 100. 100 IBUs, that is!
