LBG Minutes – January 2013

Business Meeting

New people – (I apologize, I did not get the names)Welcome!

Clean-up was by (again, I apologize, I did not write down the name) Thanks!

Librarian – Jeff went over check out procedure (handed the librarian cart over to Christen).

Treasurer (Ken) – balance is about $3900. *Membership fees and keg buy payments are still coming in.
An interesting tidbit: we have 92 members already for 2013. And we signed up 14 new members at the meeting!
Membership Dues
Individual = $20
Family = $30
Check the forum in the Members Only section for the 2013 Membership Dues information
Membership cards will be issued at February meeting.

Group Keg Buy (Ken and Bowe)-
Payments due, pickup is Saturday, January 12th at 9 am

Web Admin (Sean)-All new members need to contact Sean (Cyburai on the forum) to get registered on the forum. The forum needs some upgrading (looking for an experienced volunteer) as it increases in members and has 40,000 hits/day.

Kansas Brewers Alliance (Sean)-There will be a February announcement to change legislature regarding the laws against serving to friends, serving for demos/competitions, tastings as well as the laws regarding the transport of alcohol. The process will take around 2 years to complete. Right now the steering committee is going through the revision process of the bill to have it ready for the next legislative session starting on January 14th.

Tasting-(Angelo)
This month’s tasting, featured Mead.
5 examples:

1)Sunshine Nectar by Redstone Meadery
Carbonated, Apricots added after the fermentation is completed.
Honey: 5 parts Clover, 1 part Wildflower
Sweetness: Medium-Sweet
Mead Style: Melomel
Alcohol Content: 8%

2) Tupelo Mead by Angelo.
5 gallon batch
Honey: Tupelo (20lbs.)

3) Vanilla Beans and Cinnamon Sticks Mountain Honey Wine by Redstone Meadery
“Winter Solstice” release
Honey: 2 parts Alfalfa, 1 part Wildflower
Sweetness: Sweet
Mead Style: Metheglin
Alcohol Content: 12%

4) Peach Mead by Angelo
5 gallon Batch with 20lbs of blanched peeled pitted peaches
Honey: Tupelo (20lbs.)

5) Uncle Joe’s mead (2008)
5 gallon batch: no nutrient added and made with unfiltered Raytown tap water.
Honey: local wildflower (25lbs.)
