LBG Minutes – February 2013

Business Meeting

New people –Jeff and Brian, welcome!

Clean-up-By Andy Booth and Steve Brown, thanks!

Librarian (Christen) -An LBG cookbook is in the works. Please send food recipes for spent grains or cooking with beer to Christen(Ophelia) on the forum or post on the forum. Recipes should be tried first before recommending for the LBG cookbook. If you have suggestions for the “Pairs well with” section for your recipe please include that information as well. The books will be spiral bound with plastic pages and cost $4.99 for 100 page book.
Books to be added to the library: For The Love of Hops: The Practical Guide to Aroma, Bitterness and the Culture of Hops (Brewing Elements) by Stan Hieronymus, Water: A Comprehensive Guide for Brewers by John Palmer, as well as a book about nanobreweries.

Treasurer (Ken) – balance is about $10,500. *Grain buy payments are still coming in. Membership cards are in.
Membership Dues
Individual = $20
Family = $30
Check the forum in the Members Only section for the 2013 Membership Dues information
Membership cards were issued at February meeting.

Quartermaster (Andy)-The trailer is in disarray, we need to reorganize, clean, and purchase some totes and shelving to maintain upkeep. Once the weather is warmer a post to the forum will be made for a group cleanup and organize day for the trailer. $200 budget to cleanup.

Old Business-
Mai-fest organizers – Jeff, Jim, Cathy. Mai-fest will probably be at Sean and Sherry’s again. Camping is available and encouraged. Sean will be cooking up brats and chicken thighs. Please bring side dishes and lawn chairs. If you are brewing , filtered water or a filter for a hose should be brought as well. Well-behaved dogs are welcome. Doors are open at 9am.

New Business

Vote: It was approved to update the Biermiester’s budget to $125/mo to cover the costs for tastings. We use approximately three 12packs costing $15-20 each. If more than $125 is needed Duane request additional funding from the officers.

Vote: It was voted and approved to change the name of Brewfest to the Dwight Burnham Brewfest. Dwight was a founding member of LBG and recently passed on January 19, 2013 at the age of 95. He held the first brewfest in his backyard and wrote the LBG newsletter starting in 1995. A memorial gathering will be announced on the forum.

Vote: It was voted and approved to buy a hop rocket for the club.

We now have an LBG fan page on facebook. This is an external page to give LBG more of a presence online. This will have pictures and events posted to it.

It was decided amongst the group to not open a Twitter account as few members use Twitter.

Charitable giving- We are looking for opportunities to get involved in the community and give of our time. Some ideas include adopting a family, donating to the Humane Society, etc. We need your ideas, please post on the forum.

Another keg buy is going on now!
