LBG Minutes – March 2014
Business Meeting

New people – Nathan, Matt, Marty, Phil, Adam and Trevor. Welcome!

Clean-up – Angleo, Michele, John, Rod and Kevin. Thank you!

Announcements:

The Lawrence Brewers Guild meetings are held to discuss new business and to learn about brewing beer and other beverages. If you are attending the meeting for social time, please take your talk outside of the building, so we can't hear you in the sanctuary. Please be considerate during the meetings. You are encouraged to bring your homebrew for sampling prior to the meetings.

The officers met to update the LBG bylaws to bring them up to date with the budget, terms, and new officers. Angelo will post the updated document on the form for your review. We will vote on them in the April meeting.

We need a volunteer to chair a new social committee. The social committee will plan charitable events for LBG. The Ballard Center is having a paint/cleanup day on May 24, 2014. LBG would like to be involved in the Ballard Center day in addition to participating in other charitable events.

LBG T-Shirts are on sale for $10/each. LBG stickers are 2 for $3. Pint glasses are $1/each.

If you have any LBG related pictures or content appropriate for the new website, please put those items on the Lawrence Brewers Guild Facebook page, or email the content to lawrencebrewers@gmail.com.

New Business:

The Kansas City Bier Meisters had their 31st Annual Home Brew Competition on February 21st and 22nd called Where the Wild Beers Are. Cinder Block Brewery was the sponsor. Several LBG members entered the competition. Angelo, Jenalea, Kyle, Kevin and Jim all placed in the competition.

Vice President (Christen)
Seminar tonight is conversion from extract to all grain. The April seminar will be BJCP (Beer Judging Certification Program) courses.

Secretary (Suzanne)
The business meeting will begin promptly at 7:00pm, followed by the tasting at approximately 7:30pm and then the seminar afterwards. Please try to be on time. All meeting attendees should bring either a beverage or a snack (or both) to share.

Treasurer (Bowe)
LBG has approx. $6000. Approximatley 129 members. New membership cards are available. Renew your memberships for 2014. If you need to talk to the Treasurer, please do so before or after the business-meeting portion.
Membership Dues:
Individual = $20
Family = $30
Check the forum in the Members Only section for the 2014 Membership Dues information.
**Only paid members will have access to the Members-Only section of the forum and the right to vote on LBG business.

Librarian (Jenalea)
Return books that you checked out. The library is missing books. A list will be posted on the forum. Jenalea is looking for an app that would help with checking out the books. If you have any suggestions, please let her know.

Quartermaster (Andy)
Equipment is available to check out by LBG members. Please keep the equipment clean. The Ventmatic faucets had problems with the bonnets. New parts are being sent so you can rebuild the bonnet. We need new CO2 tanks – 2-20# tanks should be fine. Andy will figure out a process for gas reimbursement.

Bulk Buy – Frank Dillon (FDillon00) is in charge of bulk buys. To make a purchase, contact Frank, or on the forum, go to:
Board index » Members Only Area » Member Only Discussion » Group or Bulk Buying » Grain Buy 2013-E; OPEN (be sure to read all of the instructions). You will need to pay Frank at the time of purchase (not at time of delivery).

Steve Brown has added a poll on the forum to survey what types of music is preferred at Brewfest.

Matt Bechtold has a new social media site called Brewliving.com. Sign up to be a part of the beta testing. The code to register is brewvip.

Trevor Prater is a KU student in Chemical Engineering. Trevor is working on a project for his Self Fellow and needs brewers to lecture and give demos for this project. Please volunteer to help Trevor.

Events:

A Women's Brewday will be held March 15. There are about 10 ladies that will get together and brew a Carmel Hazelnut Porter with Vanilla. Check the forum for details.

Jenalea is planning a LBG members only bus tour of the Kansas City Breweries to be held on March 29, 2014. See the forum for details. LBG will pay $593 for the bus. You can bring food and beverages, just do not bring glass.

11th Annual Parkville Microbrew Fest will be held April 26 2014. The organizers have approached LBG about having a booth. We will need volunteers to donate 45 gallons of beer and to work the booth. In exchange, LBG will get some tickets so volunteers can enjoy the festival too. Duane will head the committee for Parkville. Contact Duane for information.

Maifest will be held May 3, 2014 at the Bar X Ranch (Sean Belden's and Sherry Warren's house). LBG reimburses Sean $200 for hosting Maifest. LBG members should bring a side dish to share and homebrew. Members get together to brew some beer and clean out and inventory the equipment trailer. Details will be posted on the forum.

The National Homebrewer Conference will be June 12 -14, 2014 in Grand Rapids, MI. Tickets go on sale February 19th. Angelo would like LBG to represent at this conference. In order to go, you will need to register as a member with the National Homebrewer Association (cost is approx. $38) and sign up/pay fees to go to the conference. Each LBG member will be responsible for paying his or her way to the conference, but it’s worth it. Click here for more information: http://www.ahaconference.org/conference/about/
We need club donations of beer if we have our own booth.

Mugs for Jugs will be held on July 12, 2014. Details will be posted on the forum.

Great Taste of the Midwest (greattaste.org) 2014 will be held August 9, 2014. Some LBG members and other brewers are looking into hiring a private bus to drive them to Madison. Reserve a hotel room now. Sean Belden will reserve a block of rooms. Angelo mentioned that he and some others will be camping and riding their bicycles in Madison. LBG members should order tickets regardless if they are planning to go. Tickets to this event are a valuable commodity. Check the forum or talk to Sean for details.

Tucker Craig is looking into the possibility of bringing back Pints for Pets. We will look for more information at the next meeting.

New events are posted on the LBG Facebook page as they are announced.

Beer Tasting:
