LBG Minutes – April 2014
Business Meeting

New people – Rick Brown, Katie and Brian, Patrick, Mike, Brandon and Greg (from Ernst Hardware). Welcome!

Announcements:

The Lawrence Brewers Guild meetings are held to discuss new business and to learn about brewing beer and other beverages. If you are attending the meeting for social time, please take your talk outside of the building, so we can't hear you in the sanctuary. Please be considerate during the meetings. You are encouraged to bring your homebrew and a snack for sampling prior to the meetings..

LBG T-Shirts are on sale for $10/each. LBG stickers are 2 for $3. Pint glasses are $1/each.

If you have any LBG related pictures or content appropriate for the new website, please put those items on the Lawrence Brewers Guild Facebook page, or email the content to lawrencebrewers@gmail.com.

New Business:

Greg with Ernst Hardware on Massachusetts Street wants LBG to give him suggestions on brewing equipment and supplies that Ernst Hardware should carry in inventory. Please call or stop by Ernst Hardware and talk to Greg.

KS House Bill #2223 passed in the House and Senate to allow Kansas home brewers to legally share homebrew at club meetings and enter homebrew competitions. (http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/r ... hts-in-ks/). The bill is on the way to the Governor for final signatures.

Andy Booth, Quartermaster, is working on Brewfest weekend and will not be able to lead the beverage check-in on Friday night. New Beverage Committee chairs are needed and will be nominated at the June LBG meeting.

Members will vote on the updated Bylaws during the May meeting. The Bylaws are posted on the forum.

Vice President (Christen)
The seminar tonight is BJCP (Beer Judging Certification Program) courses. The July seminar is “How to build your own stir plate. “ Please bring your homemade stir plates to share.

Secretary (Suzanne)
Jenalea did a wonderful job leading the KC Brewery Tour on March 29. The breweries were ready for us, the beer was great and everyone had a fun time. Many thanks to Jenalea.

Treasurer (Bowe)
LBG has approx. $6400. Approximately 129 members. New membership cards are available. Renew your memberships for 2014. If you need to talk to the Treasurer, please do so before or after the business-meeting portion.
Membership Dues:
Individual = $20
Family = $30
Check the forum in the Members Only section for the 2014 Membership Dues information.
**Only paid members will have access to the Members-Only section of the forum and the right to vote on LBG business.

Librarian (Jenalea)
Return books that you checked out. The library is missing books. A list of missing books was posted on the forum. Jenalea is looking for an app that would help with checking out the books. If you have any suggestions, please let her know.

A Women's Brewday was held March 15. The women brewed a Carmel Hazelnut Porter with Vanilla.

11th Annual Parkville Microbrew Fest will be held April 26 2014. The organizers have approached LBG about having a booth. Duane and Sarah are heading the committee for Parkville. Contact them for information. Forum name is CityShopBC.

Maifest will be held May 3, 2014 at the Bar X Ranch (Sean Belden's and Sherry Warren's house). LBG members should bring a side dish to share and homebrew. Members get together to brew some beer and clean out and inventory the equipment trailer. Details will be posted on the forum.

May 17th – 1st Anniversary Get Ripped Brew Fest in Kansas City. See Big Rip Brewing's website for details: http://bigripbrewing.com

May 24: LBG is participating in the clean up day at the Ballard Center in Lawrence. Details will be posted on the forum.

Boulevard Brewing is having an urban street festival June 13-15, 2014. Tickets are on sale now. http://www.boulevardia.com

The National Homebrewer Conference will be June 12 -14, 2014 in Grand Rapids, MI. Tickets go on sale February 19th. Angelo would like LBG to represent at this conference. In order to go, you will need to register as a member with the National Homebrewer Association (cost is approx. $38) and sign up/pay fees to go to the conference. Each LBG member will be responsible for paying his or her way to the conference, but it’s worth it. Click here for more information: http://www.ahaconference.org/conference/about/
We need club donations of beer if we have our own booth.

Mugs for Jugs will be held on July 12, 2014. Details will be posted on the forum.

Great Taste of the Midwest (greattaste.org) 2014 will be held August 9, 2014. Some LBG members and other brewers are looking into hiring a private bus to drive them to Madison. Reserve a hotel room now. Sean Belden will reserve a block of rooms. Angelo and some others will be camping and riding their bicycles in Madison. LBG members should order tickets regardless if they are planning to go. Tickets to this event are a valuable commodity. Check the forum or talk to Sean for details. Mail your ticket request on May 5, 2014. See the website for details: http://greattaste.org/. LBG gets 14 tickets from the Wisconsin homebrew club that sponsors GTotM. Details for how you can sign up for these tickets will be posted on the forum. Tickets are $60 each.

Tucker Craig and Danielle Rittenhouse are bringing back Pints for Pets. Pints will be held on Saturday, May 31. Details will be posted on the forum.

New events are posted on the LBG Facebook page as they are announced.

Beer Tasting:
Biermeister (Duane Buscher) - Duane will most likely not be at the May meeting, so Tucker Craig will lead the tasting.

Tasting rules: pour 2oz only during LBG tastings. This equates to approximately two fingers horizontally. Be aware to leave enough for everyone to have a taste.

The April tastings are Belgian IPAs.

#2: Duane’s Belgian IPA: Belgian Specialty Ale
#3: Houblon Chouffe Dobbelen IPA Tripel by Brasserie d’Achouffe: Tripel IPA
#4: Green Flash Le Freak by Green Flash Brewing Co.: Tripel IPA

The May tasting will be Pale Lagers.

The seminar tonight is presented by Chris Stenger and is
“BJCP (Beer Judging Certification Program) Class.”
