Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day, November 6th

The American Homebrewers Association Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day is an international event to introduce people to the homebrewing hobby and establish relationships with local homebrew supply shops. Each year on the first Saturday in November, homebrewers around the world are encouraged to invite non-brewing and brewing friends and family to celebrate Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day and brew a batch of beer together. Visit the Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day site.

Minutes of the September 9th Meeting

Treasurer's Report: Treasurer was absent.

New Secretary: Due to other commitments, Dale stepped down from his position of Secretary. Craig Cottingham volunteered to fill out Dale's term.

Old Business
Oktoberfest Party: Andy Booth is hosting an Oktoberfest Party at his home on Saturday, October 23rd. The Guild will provide some meat, people are encouraged to bring side dishes. A sheet was passed around for people to sign up for beer contributions and to get an estimate on attendance.

Brewfest '04: All ticket money was accounted for to the satisfaction of the treasurer.

Next Year: Tenth anniversary shirts were discussed. Perhaps a group picture. Polo shirts were also discussed for members.

Membership Directory: Next year when memberships are renewed, you will be asked for contact information to create a membership directory. This information will only be used by paid members as a communication tool.

Seminars: Ideas are needed for seminars. Craig suggested label making. Rob wants to do another game show format. Also Tony Kugler is still available, but not during the fall.

New Business
Holiday Party: Dave Phelps said he might be able to host this year.

Barrel: Rob says the barrel is "growing green slurm." It was suggested to try to use it for a lambic or cider. It was also suggested to try to sell it to recoup some of the investment.

KC Cellarmasters Competition: Rob is organizing the steward for the KC Cellarmasters Wine Competition. Contact him if you are interested. The contest is being held November 6th at the Holy-Field Winery in Basehor, KS.

Tuff Tank: Rob brought a Tuff Tank from EC Krause. He had planned on using it as a fermentor, but didn't like the groove near the lid. He felt it would be hard to keep clean.

Jonathan Drury brought some oak scraps to give away to members.

Meeting adjourned for Commercial Tasting.

Commercial Tasting - Beers of Bristol Brewing
Joe was out of town this month. Marc Epard brought a selection of beers from a recent trip to Bristol Brewing in Colorado Springs.

1. Beehive Honey Wheat - "No body, but well balanced", "Wheat character comes through", "Very drinkable"
2. Mass Transit Ale - "Balanced" (but Barry didn't like the tang), "Light bodied for an amber, needs more sweetness", "Almost like an alt"
3. Red Rocket - "Way too thin", " Very clean", "Obviously dry hopped, almost a dry hopped version of Mass Transit", "A little sweeter"
4. Laughing Lab Scottish Ale - "Strange" (Steve Hinton), "Still low body", "Needs a little more . . . everything" (Rob)

Thanks for taking the time and effort to bring back these beers Marc!
