LBG Minutes – June 2014 (taken by Jenalea Myers for Suzanne McAlister)
Business Meeting (run by Christen Nelson for Angleo Ruiz)

Welcome
• New people -- Welcome!
• Cleanup -- Thank you to the three volunteers!

Announcements
• The Lawrence Brewers Guild meetings are held to discuss new business and to learn about brewing beer and other beverages. If you are attending the meeting for social time, please take your talk outside of the building, so we can't hear you in the sanctuary. Please be considerate during the meetings. You are encouraged to bring your homebrew and a snack for sampling prior to the meetings.

• LBG T-Shirts are on sale for $10/each. LBG stickers are 2 for $3. Brewfest pint glasses are $1/each.

• If you have any LBG-related pictures or content appropriate for Facebook, the website or newsletter, please put those items in the LBG Facebook group or e-mail the content to lawrencebrewers@gmail.com.

• Congrats to Duane and Lindsey Buscher on the birth of their son, Adrian Buscher!

New Business
• Head to the forum if you’re interested in learning more about BJCP guidelines. A few members would like to start study groups. Christen also has spoken with Ted Nguyen about doing classes at Ted’s Taphouse.

• A swap meet of brewing-related equipment took place before the meeting and went well. Members agreed this is something they’d like to continue doing – possibly on a quarterly basis.

• Nominations/volunteers were taken for Brewfest committee heads. Frank Dillon volunteered for the beverage committee. Sean Belden volunteered for the food committee. Fernando Andrade volunteered for the logistics committee. Steve Brown previously was chosen to head the music committee. Tucker Craig agreed to organize the Friday night shrimp boil again. If interested in serving on the committees, volunteer on the forum or contact the committee heads directly. Meetings soon will begin between the logistics and beverage committees.

Events
• Pints for Pets was a great success, with about 140 people in attendance raising $1,300 for the Lawrence Humane Society. Thanks to Tucker Craig and Danielle Rittenhouse for hosting!

• Boulevardia — Friday, June 13-Sunday, June 15, West Bottoms

• KC Real Ale Fest — Saturday, June 21, Lee’s Summit, Mo.

• Tap That: A Capital Brew Festival — Saturday, June 28, Topeka

• KC Nano Fest — Saturday, June 28, Liberty, Mo.

• Mugs for Juggs will be on July 12 at the home of Andy and Kim Booth. Beer donations are needed. Details are on the forum.

• Great Taste of the Midwest (greattaste.org) will be Saturday, Aug. 9. There was talk of an organized bus trip with attendees and pro brewers. Sean Belden said the bus trip is not happening this year. Angelo and some others will be camping and riding their bicycles in Madison. The guild received 15 tickets in advance, and they all have been spoken for. If you mailed in for tickets, you should know by now whether you received them.

• The Great Nebraska Beer Fest will be Saturday, Aug. 23 in Papillion, Neb. This year, the guild was invited to have a booth space and serve homebrew. Last year, the guild organized a bus trip to the festival. Members agreed if the guild is having a booth space, a bus trip would be a good idea, with the guild paying for the bus. With a booth, the guild would receive six comp tickets and be able to purchase an additional four tickets at $25/each. The guild also would receive six comp tickets to the brewers event the Friday night before the festival. Chuck Ferguson moved that the LBG reserve a booth space and move forward with the planning of a bus trip. Andy Sutton seconded. All voted in favor. Chuck volunteered to organize the keg donations/booth. Contact Chuck to donate a keg or sign up to volunteer at the booth. Jenalea Myers volunteered to organize the bus trip. Watch the forum for details and begin purchasing tickets if interested in attending.

• New events are posted on the LBG Facebook page and website as they are announced.

Officer Reports
• Vice President (Christen) -- The seminar tonight is automation/measuring, led by Jared Rudy.

•Treasurer (Bowe) -- The LBG has about $5,000 in the bank and about 159 paid members. New membership cards are available. Renew your memberships for 2014. If you need to talk to the treasurer, please do so before or after the business-meeting portion. Membership dues: individual, $20; family, $30. Check the forum in the members-only section for the 2014 membership dues information. Only paid members will have access to the members-only section of the forum and the right to vote on LBG business.

• Librarian/Historian (Jenalea) -- There are several new books in the library. Please be considerate and return books that you have checked out. If you have any new book suggestions, please let Jenalea know. Chris Stenger discussed a book series he would like the guild to purchase. If members want the series in the library, the guild will have to approve the purchase, as it, combined with the books already purchased this year, would be over the yearly $200 library allotment. Members agreed to find out more about the series before the next meeting. The first club e-newsletter went out this week. It’s still a work in progress and will have other features as time goes on. If you’re not on the subscriber list, see Jenalea or check out the newsletter thread on the forum.

• See the forum for equipment checkout. Board index » Members Only Area » Library » Equipment

Other Reports
• Bulk Buy -- Frank Dillon, Foodie Supply LLC (FDillon00), coordinates bulk buys for LBG. To make a purchase, contact Frank, or on the forum, go to:
Board index » Members Only Area » Member Only Discussion » Group or Bulk Buying » Grain Buy 2013-E; OPEN (be sure to read all of the instructions). You will need to pay Frank at the time of purchase (not at time of delivery). You can subscribe to the grain buy feed on the forum to keep up with the latest messages. When you order, make sure you use the correct part numbers. Frank will order exactly what you request.

Tasting
• Biermeister (Duane Buscher) -- chile beers. Tasting rules: Pour 2 ounces only during LBG tastings. This equates to approximately two fingers horizontally. Be aware to leave enough for everyone to have a taste.

Seminar
• Automation/measuring -– Jared Rudy
