LBG Minutes – August 2014
Business Meeting

Welcome
• New people – James, Jeff, Jeremy, Vernon, Kyle and Kelsey. Welcome!
• Cleanup – John, Rod and Michele. Thank you!

Announcements
• The Lawrence Brewers Guild meetings are held to discuss new business and to learn about brewing beer and other beverages. If you are attending the meeting for social time, please take your talk outside of the building, so we can't hear you in the sanctuary. Please be considerate during the meetings. You are encouraged to bring your homebrew and a snack for sampling prior to the meetings.

• LBG T-Shirts are on sale for $10/each. LBG stickers are 2 for $3.

• If you have any LBG-related pictures or content appropriate for Facebook, the website or newsletter, please put those items in the LBG Facebook group or e-mail the content to lawrencebrewers@gmail.com.

New Business

The swap meet held before the meeting went well. Swap meets are held once per quarter before the monthly meeting.

Homebrew clubs can now buy general liability insurance through the AHA at a cost of approximately $3.50/member. The cost to LBG will be approximately $605/year. Angelo proposed raising the membership rates to $25/single, $35/family to offset the insurance cost. The membership voted to buy the insurance and raise the membership rates. LBG member names will be provided to the insurance company.

Joe Yoder brought up the issue of the soon-to-be vacant Quartermaster position. Andy Booth has been the club Quartermaster for many years and is stepping down. Joe proposed that the Quartermaster position be made into a committee instead of just one person. If the position is made into a committee, then Andy may be willing to be a part of the committee. The committee will be comprised of four people. LBG members interested in serving on the committee should contact Joe Yoder, Andy Booth, or Angelo Ruiz.

Duane and Lindsey Buscher are moving to Wisconsin. Duane’s position as the LBG Biermeister is open. If you are interested in being the Biermeister, please contact Angleo.

Geoff Deman, Luke Otter, and Kevin Prescott from Free State Brewery attended the meeting to announce the AHA Rally event (http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/e ... aha-rally/). The rally will be held on October 18 at the Free State Brewing Company Production Facilities. LBG would like to form a committee to manage concessions at the rally. We can sell sausages/hot dogs (possibly made by the Lawrence Charcuterie Club) as a fundraiser for LBG. LBG member James Taylor will be the chair of the concession committee. Also, LBG will hold home brewing demonstrations at the rally. There will be a beer competition using sweet potatoes (viewtopic.php?f=20&t=3829). Bring your finished beers to sample to the September meeting.

Brewfest Committee Reports:

Beverage: Frank Dillon
Everyone donating beer to Brewfest must watch the kegging video in the seminar tonight. If you have any questions about kegging, please contact Frank. If your keg is clogged, or over/under carbonated at Brewfest, it will not be served.

Suzanne McAlister will be in charge of the bartender sign-up. This will be posted after the flights are announced so you can sign up to serve your beer.

As of tonight, there are still six open donation spots left to fill. Get on the forum and donate your keg.

Food: Sean Belden (not in attendance)
All LBG members are expected to bring a side dish on the 27th. Side dishes will sit out for a while, hence no mayo or dairy, if possible.

Logistics: Fernando Andrade
Need someone to haul the LBG trailer and the ice to the campground. Andy and Jared Rudy will take care of getting the ice and the trailer to the campground on Friday the 26th.
The paper products in the trailer need to be inventoried as soon as possible.

Sign up to volunteer on the various Brewfest committees (Beverage, Food, Logistics). Every member that attends Brewfest should be signed up to work a shift helping with food, working the ticket station, emptying trash, replacing toilet paper, etc. All members should bring a side dish.

Shrimp Boil: Tucker Craig
Tucker will hold the shrimp boil on Friday night. You will need to sign up on the forum and buy your ticket at the September meeting. You must have a ticket in order to eat. Tickets will be $15 each.
Tucker needs some volunteers to clean up after the shrimp boil is over.

Music: Steve Brown
Steve has the bands all booked. Lance Fahey is not available to play this year. Steve will post the final band lineup on the forum.
