LBG Minutes – October 2014
Business Meeting

Welcome
• New people – Carl. Welcome!
• Cleanup – John, Rod and Jim. Thank you!

Announcements
• The Lawrence Brewers Guild meetings are held to discuss new business and to learn about brewing beer and other beverages. If you are attending the meeting for social time, please take your talk outside of the building, so we can't hear you in the sanctuary. Please be considerate during the meetings. You are encouraged to bring your homebrew (or commercial beer if you don’t have homebrew) and a snack for sampling prior to the meetings.

• LBG stickers are on sale $1/each. LBG t-shirts are on sale for $10/each.

• If you have any LBG-related pictures or content appropriate for Facebook, the website or newsletter, please put those items in the LBG Facebook group or e-mail the content to lawrencebrewers@gmail.com.

New Business

The swap meet was held in the rain tonight. This was the last swap meet until next year. Watch for the announcement on the Lawrence Brewers Guild Facebook Page.

The AHA Rally event (http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/e ... aha-rally/) will be held on October 18 at the Free State Brewing Company Production Facilities. James Taylor is the chair of the concession committee. In order to attend or volunteer at the rally, you must either be a current member of AHA, or be willing to join. Only AHA members can attend the rally and volunteer. You must RSVP to attend.

Brewfest Feedback:
The music was really good.
Jared did a great job with the ice trailer.
The shrimp boil was great.
The extra meat went to LINK.
It was great to have so many sodas donated this year. Galen built the awesome soda dispensary.
Next year (September 2015) is the 20th anniversary of Brewfest. A committee is being formed now to develop ideas to make the 20th Brewfest special. Anyone wishing to be a part of the committee should contact Andy Booth or look up the topic on the forum.

2015 officer nominations will be held at the November LBG meeting. Angelo’s term will expire this year. All other officers will have one year left on their terms.

LBG Holiday Party will be December 6th. All details are on the forum. Members attending should bring a side dish to share. LBG is buying eight frozen turkeys. Members will be asked to volunteer to cook the turkeys. See the forum for details.

Tasting
Tasting rules: Pour 2 ounces only during LBG tastings. This equates to approximately two fingers horizontally. Be aware to leave enough for everyone to have a taste.

This month’s tasting is Sweet Potato Beer brewed by the members that participated in the Free State Brewing sweet potato competition. A panel discussion was held with Angelo Ruiz, Jenalea Myers, Jake Jeffries, Frank Dillon, Bob Dieterle and Chris Stenger.

#4: Jake’s beer – this is the beer that won the Free State Brewing sweet potato beer contest
#5: Jenalea and Courtney’s beer
#6: Frank’s beer

The November tasting will be Russian Imperial Stout beers.

Seminar
No seminar tonight due to the change in tasting.

Angelo asked the members to vote on purchasing $200 in gift cards for the Holiday Party raffles. The vote passed.

Just a note concerning communication about club events. Not everyone is on facebook. Please post meeting changes, such as the sweet potato beer tasting, on the forum in addition to putting them on whatever social media you feel you need to post to. Pictures posted on facebook are also not seen by those of us that choose not to be on facebook, please cross post them to the forum or put them on the website.
thanks,
Joe Yoder

One correction. The November tasting will be sour beers and will be in conjunction with the barrel aging/sour beer panel.

Cheers,
Andy

Lupulin Threshold Shift
lupulin threshold shift \lu·pu·lin thresh·old shift\ n
1. When a once extraordinarily hoppy beer now seems pedestrian.
2. The phenomenon a person has when craving more bitterness in beer.
3. The long-term exposure to extremely hoppy beers; if excessive or prolonged, a habitual dependence on hops will occur.

Hey, Suzanne. Jake's last name is actually Jeffers. I take responsibility for that -- I think I misspelled it somewhere.

Joe -- A lot of the photos from events go into a slideshow with the news item on the website. Under the latest entries on the home page, if you click on a news item's headline, you'll go to another page with the info and slideshow of pics. I don't post all of the photos there (it's time consuming to compress them for the web so they display correctly), but the best ones from each event are there. You might even spot yourself in the slideshow of pics from the Free State wort giveaway ;).
