LBG Minutes – November 2014
Business Meeting

Welcome
• New people – Monty and Randy. Welcome!
• Cleanup – John, Murphy and Randy. Thank you!

Announcements
• The Lawrence Brewers Guild meetings are held to discuss new business and to learn about brewing beer and other beverages. If you are attending the meeting for social time, please take your talk outside of the building, so we can't hear you in the sanctuary. Please be considerate during the meetings. You are encouraged to bring your homebrew (or commercial beer if you don’t have homebrew) and a snack for sampling prior to the meetings.

• LBG stickers are on sale $1/each. LBG t-shirts are on sale for $10/each.

• If you have any LBG-related pictures or content appropriate for Facebook, the website or newsletter, please put those items in the LBG Facebook group or e-mail the content to lawrencebrewers@gmail.com.

There will be no December meeting.

Congratulations to the following LBG members for placing and winning in the Hall of Foamers competition: James and Tara Taylor, Courtney Servaes, Matt Bechtold, Mark Torres, Jenalea Myers and Chuck Ferguson. It’s important for LBG members to enter competitions. It’s a great way to have your beer critiqued.

New Business

The AHA Rally event (http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/e ... aha-rally/) was held on October 18 at the Free State Brewing Company Production Facilities. James and Tara Taylor did a great job running the concession. Thanks to Jim McGovern and other LBG members that helped.

Leigh Keck’s dad is a beekeeper in the Lecompton area and he will sell his honey to LBG members for $50/gallon. A gallon of honey is approximately 12 pounds. Contact Leigh if you want to purchase a gallon of honey.

LBG Holiday Party will be December 6th from 6-11pm. All details are on the forum. Members attending should bring a side dish to share. Dale has the turkeys at the meeting for pickup. If you signed up to cook at turkey, you are responsible for getting it cooked and to the party by 6pm on December 6th. The turkeys are pre-brined. Members attending should bring their beer in kegs. Frank would prefer full kegs. Door prizes will be given out. Courtney Servaes is in charge of the beer exchange. All of those details are also on the forum.

The KC Biermeister homebrewing competition will be in February. Start brewing now to enter.

There are several beer related events happening around KC. New events are posted on the LBG Facebook page and website (http://www.lawrencebrewers.org/wp/) as they are announced.

Officer nominations will be held tonight. Angelo’s term expires this year. All other officers have one year left on their terms. Members in good standing can vote at the January meeting. Tasting
Tasting rules: Pour 2 ounces only during LBG tastings. This equates to approximately two fingers horizontally. Be aware to leave enough for everyone to have a taste.

This month’s tasting is Sour Beer brewed by LBG members and Crane Brewing. A panel discussion took place with Dustin from Boulevard Brewing, Jim McGovern and Michael Crane from Crane Brewing. Andy Booth led the discussion.

We had seven sour beer tastes. They were all delicious.

The January tasting will be Russian Imperial Stout beers.

Seminar
No seminar tonight due to the change in tasting.

Adjournment
Thank you to everyone who brought snacks and drinks tonight!

Next meeting: 7 p.m. Thursday, January 8th, Unitarian Fellowship, 1263 N. 1100 Road, Lawrence, KS 66047. The business meeting will begin promptly at 7 p.m. Social time and/or the swap meet will be 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Remember to bring your homebrew and snacks.

Tucker wasn't there, but I believe Brick (or someone else sitting behind me) declined on his behalf? At least that was my understanding. Also, since I'm running for president, I declined the nomination for librarian.
