Meeting Minutes for the November 9th meeting held at the Unitarian Fellowship

Seminar
No seminar for November

Business Meeting

Old Business

Pole Tent
The guild purchased a large pole tent. It has been used for a few private events, and is very easy to put up.

Competition
The competition was a success
We made $350 on the sale of glasses
Thanks to all who donated beer for public tasting and to all who entered the comp.
Results are on the forum. Score sheets were available at the meeting.
Thanks to Shane for stepping up and getting medals made on such short notice after the ball was dropped.
We sold a gross of glasses this year. We could easily double that for next year. We may consider doing additional demos next year, and having the tasting span two days.

Holiday Party
Holiday party will be held in place of the December meeting
December 9th @ 7pm - Sean and Sherry's House
Potluck sides, and homebrew appreciated.

Treasurer?s Report
About $3500 in the bank

Grain Buy
If you are in on the grain buy be prepared to pay for your grain on or around the 14th. Don?t be ?that? guy.
Be prepared to help unload and sort the grain. It is not a one or two person job.
Keep an eye on the forum for updates on the grain buy.
There is still room to get in on the buy if you haven?t already. If you do not have a mill, put a post out on the forum. There are many members with mills willing to help.

Membership info
We need a volunteer to head up the membership contact info sheet.
Need to get contact info for all willing members.
Organize it and get it to the membership via email, print, or otherwise.

New Business

Officer Elections
Officer elections will be in January. Please post any officer nominations on the forum.

BJCP certification.
There has been a great deal of interest from some of the members to get BJCP certified. John Monaghan and Steve Hinton will be working together to organize a study group and to arrange a time and location for our members to take the exam.
Interested parties should contact one of them.

So far, we have the following people as interested in taking the exam:
Dustin Jameson
Shane Lynn
Sean Belden
Jarrell Snowbarger
Dale Wheeler
John Monaghan
Dennis Suddermeyer

Mayfest
We will be putting on a Mayfest May 6, 2007!
Thanks to Dennis for reserving our favorite campsite!! Treasurer will reimburse him.
Early ideas for mayfest are to have it on the same day as Bigbrew May 6th, and to invite all of the homebrew clubs in Kansas and Missouri. The plan is to grow this into an annual gathering of Midwest homebrewers.
Details will be posted soon on the forum.

Outreach to KCBM and THOF?
A number of the members have discussed getting together and heading up to some of the Kansas City Beer Meisters and Topeka Hall of Foamers meetings to give us a chance to meet other nearby brewers, and see what other clubs have going on. KCBM meetings are the day after ours, and THOF are the day before. We may consider skipping one of our meetings to do this, or just force ourselves to enjoy beer and the company of fellow brewers for 2 nights in a row! The horror!

Oktoberfest Trip
Dale is organizing a trip to Germany for Oktoberfest
Early estimates are about $2000 per person for about 8 days.
Details coming to the forum soon!

MVB award
Sean proposed the guild begin giving out a ?Most Valuable Brewer? award each year. The membership would be given an opportunity to nominate a fellow member whom they feel went above and beyond in their service to the guild that year. The membership will then vote on the nominees, and the winner will receive a prize.

Thermowells for sale
Jarrell and Andy are fabricating and selling stainless thermowells for $12 each

Meeting adjourned
